Elizabeth Poblete, Olympic weightlifter from Chile, gives birth while training; unaware of pregnancy

A weightlifter straining during training dropped a couple pounds -- when she gave birth to a boy in the gym.
Elizabeth Poblete, a 22-year-old Chilean Olympian, had complained she was not feeling well -- but was unaware she was pregnant, the BBC reported on its Web site.

The child was born three months premature.

Poblete, who lives in Brazil, was rushed to a Sao Paulo hospital, where the 2.54-pound baby was placed in intensive care.

The birth occurred on Dec. 8, while she was training for an upcoming competition, the BBC reported.
The gym's head coach, Horacio Reis, reportedly described the birth as "a surprise."

"A week ago, I acted as a judge in a competition in Chile and this girl was competing. All went well and she won the competition," the AFP news agency reportedly quoted him as saying.

"I could see she was a big girl, round and strong. That's all I noticed."

Poblete competed as a weightlifter in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, finishing 12th in her class.

i would indeed imagine that depending on just how it popped out, that it would be a "surprise".

I'm definitely making sure I never do squats unless I took a big shit beforehand.....I don't want no surprises in my shorts...

I can just picture this woman struggling to lift the weight and then all the sudden a wet spot appears in her crotch following by a huge lump...."Holy shit she shit her pants....holy shit her shit is squirming...holy shit her shit is whining WTF!!"

She never felt a kick? eesh

Damn, it's bad enough when some dude farts in the gym.

When I was six months I barely showed, was racing mountain bikes till 5 months of pregnancy , but of course I knew when I stopped menstruating. I have had patients who had monthly menstrual periods through their first six-7 months of their pregnancy....If she had periods and stopped she may have thought she had female athletic triad.
