Hey in a bit of a pickle... currently i am doing a fullbody workout which consists of compound movements only 3 days a week which im really enjoying, but ive also herd good things about kettlebells in terms of conditioning and fat loss!!! i wld like to add kettlebell workouts into the days that im not doing my fullbody workout. Wld this be seen as overtraing!!! any help greatly appreciated!!!:wits:

Take the kettlebells and use them for paper weights. They are also good for keep doors open when needing extra ventilation while doing real work. Then inbox me and I will give you my address or pay pal account. Then you can send me 20 bucks and thank me for saving you from fad workouts and the latest craze.

Kettle bells have been around for centuries. People are using them now, suddenly, because they are usually shiny and color coded, like bosu balls. They are a lump of dense mass like other weights and just slightly more comfortable than a dumbell for doing SOME movements. They are a tool. You can take a hammer and build a house or bang yourself on the head with it. Most people doing and teaching kettlebells are ignorant and the teachers are cashing in on the craze and trying to make them look special. As I say, what good is it if you learn this crap, or some dance dvd, or some other dvd, but don't learn how to properly squat?

Do your normal workout, learn how to do your basic core complex movements of deadlifts, squats, presses, rows, pull ups, etc., and learn about proper support and protection of the lower lumbar, all the while studying about nutritional manipulation. Then come back and do the kettle bells when you have time to actually learn about what you're doing. Then you'll realize you probably don't need them! Then you can send me another 20 on principle.

yes i do all of those lifts and others... when u say nutrition manipulation u mean carb targeting eg lifting weights in the arvo therefore i target most of my carbs around the arvo simple and complex!!!

what wld u suggest instead of the kettlebells i just like being active so i thought maybe doin that would help with building lean muscle tissue and some fat loss along the way as well as my weight lifting.

wld you suggest changing my tempo during my fullbody workout less rest etc???

i got blagged into paying to do a kettle bell class by my local gym and it was a absolute load of rubbush, the instructor convinced us that they give results far greater than normal weights yet he just had all 25 students (me incuded) doing renegade rows, sit ups,and a few dodgy swinging movments.certainly nothing new and certainly not as good as the tried and tested compound movments you already do. id forget the idea to be honest.
im not saying the movments are bad he showed us but they arnt anything new and can all be done with any type of weight.

yeah i see tiny... was just looking for something to do on my off days besides plain cardio ya know!!!

you could shift to a four day split which would fill another day and IMO would give you a more complete workout with rest etc.

you could do for eg

day1 upper pull (back, shoulders, bis)
day 2 lower push (legs, calves)
day 3 upper push (chest, shoulders tris)
day 4 lowers pull (legs, back calves)

I think if your wanting to throw in some cardio based kettbell training then go ahead it wont do any harm along with maybe circuits, boxercise etc.
As far as cardios concerned tho i believe you cant beat a bit of outdoor hill running

yeah i was thinkin of doing that but it the only problem is my gym partner is tight for flexibility due to work commitments.... i do some runinng mon thurs for footy training which involves stair climbs hills and general running etc.... just thought lifiting light weights wld aid in more fat burning etc keep the muscle slighty active on day off... may look into boxercise???

when you say you've heard good things you mean "muscle and fitness" magazine or something?? no kettle weights are just weights and not very good at that

Where did I say anything about carb targeting? sheesh

I would suggest you realize that an off day is an off day. Otherwise don't call it an off day. How many days of rest do you get per week? I mean doing nothing strenuous? If you're one of those people that have to do something, as I am, I would suggest changing your split up into a 4 day split or something like that where you can workout without overtaxing groups as someone else suggested. So many people have this same issue where they don't understand that less is more when you're doing high intensity work. You have to learn how to not workout if you're prone to wanting to "work on your off days" It also depends on your short and long term goals.

Wel u didnt mention carb targetin my bad ha ha!!!

well over the last couple of days trainig i lifted my energy and intensity during my workouts and lets just say i wldnt of been able to do anythin to taxin on my days off eg kettlebells... because i wldnt of been able to i have been feeling it after my workouts and the next day the most i be able to do was a bit of running!

i do realise that a day off means a day off sometimes the idea just creeps into the head, shit could i be doing more...im sure we have all experienced that feeling at times???
