It's kind of sad how few Americans are bi or multi-lingual compared to most Western European countries. Most Germans can also speak Italian and French. But the countries in Western Europe are so small in comparison to the U.S. that it would be like every state speaking a different language. If that were true, most of us would probably speak 3 or 4 languages.
