for the past two months i've been doing as many sets as i could till could barely lift the bar up once. wondering if this is doing me any good

Depends on how many sets/ intensity/etc.

Nothing wrong with going till failure - as long as you allow enough recovery time for your CNS before going till failure again. If you're going till failure and doing more than, say, 15-20 reps then you're sort of at the limits of usefulness. If for instance you're doing like 15 sets of 20 reps and by the end of the workout you can't even lift your arm up with no weight what-so-ever then you're a sadist with a lot of time to waste.

If you're doing 15 sets of 20 reps, you are doing an aerobic exercise, and not a strength exercise.

You should know within under two months, and most likely it isn't doing any good past the once in a very blue moon changeup.

I use burnout sets rarely, as a shock method.

True, like I said, pretty much a waste of time - but if he's doing a 5x5 till fail - then there's no issue. That's all I was trying to get across.

It really depends if he's aiming for strength or endurance or whatever.

I concur!
