MISSOURI WOMAN FAKED DEATH, POLICE SAY
The Des Moines Register
A woman whose death was reported last week is not dead, authorities
say. Kimberly Heston, 29, most recently of Poplar Bluff, Mo., is
accused of check kiting in several cities throughout Iowa, Kansas and
Missouri, said Sgt. Dennis Trabue of the Platte City, Mo., police . .
. A fictitious obituary for Heston was submitted to The Des Moines
Register through the paper's Web site and published in error on
Saturday. The obituary, submitted by a person who gave a false e-mail
address, said Heston died Aug. 18 in Missouri of a lung ailment. Trabue
said an informant mailed him a copy of the obituary. He said he
suspected Heston faked her own obituary. "She's kind of on the lam,"
Trabue said. "I think it was another ploy of hers to try and get us to
drop the case."
