all of it can be true.......cardio can aid in weight loss, it can improve the functioning of your cardiovascular system and low to moderate intensity cardio in between bouts of high intensity training can be used as active rest to aid recovery.
Another benefit is increased vascularity and blood/oxygen delivery to your muscles, which helps keep your muscles from fatiguing too fast during intense workouts.
All of those are great benefits. Decreased insulin sensitivity and improved capillary density are another couple of benefits I can think of off the top of my head.
