Yeah...I actually saw her in concert about 18 months ago in Minneapolis - she actually looked real good and her voice sounded strong, too. And the same half a dozen wild costume changes. But it was pretty cool - like going through 30 years of your life as you hear all the songs starting from 1964.

She's making a new cd this year - and I guess Motown is releasing a collection of jazz songs that it has held since 1972.

Here is a thought, and I honestly mean this with good intentions. Why do you care what people think about rap? You will not change anyone's opinion.
You can post your opinion, and that is fine and dandy, but you are defending Rap against every negative remark posted. That has got to be exhausting.

There is a Tool thread going on right now, and I wouldn't give a shit if everyone on the board bashed Tool. I know that I love Tool, and that is all that matters to me.

Sometimes I try to put it in perspective of Rock music but I know noone gives a shit about rap for reasons I won't go into. At least let's hear some legit reasons for the hating. Like if someone said that they're just not into the style because of musical preference thats a good reason. To some rap maybe be too "funkY" or some shit like that. Thats understandable.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that rap is the only music that you can't get away from. I hate 80s rock, and I haven't heard a single bit of it in years. heres where i stand- any artist whom is talented is just awesome no matter the music, such as the mentioned artists above, yet i do believe there are very few artists in the rap community that belong in the label as "talented"-so rap as a whole not a fan, but i have all respect for those artists listed.

The problem I have is not with others' opinions about the music, but rather what they assume about those who listen to it. It's ridiculous, ignorant, and totally incorrect. It's like assuming that, if someone likes the color blue, that person is male. Not exactly 100% accurate. Sure, maybe most are, but that's a dumb statement to make with confidence and it proves ignorance. I also hate racial slurs. I realize these are all but promoted in rap music, but that doesn't mean they have to be repeated. Put yourself above the explicit lyrics if you want to listen to the music. That's what I do. I don't think there's anything I can listen to to give me a better workout (except certain slow songs). I just don't want others assuming things about the listeners because it's just stupid.

As much as I hate to say it, Clemeson brings up a point that also aggravates the every loving shit out of me.

I do not like to listen to rap just as I do not like to listen to country music either. I have never once had someone pull up next to my bumping an $800 stereo system shaking the shit out of my car with country music. I have never heard classical, pop, rock, country, or punk being bumped out of four twelve inch punch speakers. Rap is the only thing I have ever heard being bumped.
Now I can be reasonable, and agree that it isn't Rap music's fault that some fucking retard black guy (and yes 95% of the people doing this to me is black) is violating city ordinances and pissing off everyone around him. It isn't a racial thing, but rather a culture thing.
It is just like why many people hate the biker culture, because of these old fuckers riding by on Harley's with the modified exhaust system that scares the shit out of me when they ride by. I have a huge amount of contempt for bikers with modified exhaust systems.


Every time some fucking son of a bitch makes the CDs in my visor fall out, I have to fight the urge to reach under my seat and pull my .45 to shot the fuckers speakers out, and put a bullet through their radio.
My roommate does this shit. I have asked him a hundred times to stop doing that shit out of respect for other people, and he still does it when he thinks I am not around. You can't even hear the song he is playing, because he blew up is mids, so the only thing hitting are his subs.

With so much disrespect towards the community, it is no wonder why so many people have utter contempt for rap music.

That just sounds like young kids or straight up people who love the Bass. I can't stand the rattling noise. But not many people do that around here as much as a few years ago. I don't even have a system in my car. Just make sure I can hear the beat and Lyrics. Rap instruments provide a lot of Bass and from what I have noticed, the "bumping systems" is a matter of "mine is bigger than yours" with people tryin to outdo each other and thats why it has gotten so loud. People who listen to other music do the same shit, maybe not as much, but its not as loud because its lacking in the Bass dept. It's their own faults though, they'll go deaf sooner or later or have some bad hearing down the road.
