I guess a more pertinent question would be - WILL time end? According to basic logic and most Einsteinian scientists, with the ever increasing rate of our universe's expansion, the universe should eventually cool to absolute zero, thus no motion, thus no energy, thus no time. However, modern theories tend to insist that the universe could theoretically go on forever. Most modern physicists agree that we do live in a zero energy universe, after all, and that fact alone confuses the fuck out of me. If we have zero energy total in our universe, how is it expanding? Wouldn't gravity and expansion cancel each other out?

I still don't have a strong grasp on quantum physics or string theory, so I can't comment too much on those, but my more knowledgeable friends seem to insist that our universe could go on forever in cycles of birth and death, and that other universes could collide with ours creating another big bang.

Time is weird. I once had a professor tell me that gravity was a force from the past, and that expansion is a force from the future. If gravity's force ever exceeds expansion's, we would start to travel back in time until the universe collapsed on itself. It's anyone's guess what that might lead to. Anyone know if this is true?

drugs are bad mmmmkay

your mixing up multiple theories just take them one at a time. no pun intended, time is a mathematical equation, its made up by men to organize their daily events, its based on cycles, the earths rotation mainly and would be different if we lived on another planet so its all relative. The view that time is part of the fundamental structure of the universe is philosophy. Is the universe really expanding? No one has proof it is, what if on the other side its contracting what if were in the middle of two contracting universes and were actually being pulled apart, No one knows its all theories. Just watch spongebob till the heroin wears off.

Time serves just one purpose. So everything doesn't happen at once.

We have very definite proof that the universe is expanding. They used a process called the standard candle method if you're interested. I suppose evolution is also JUST a theory to you? The word theory means something entirely different to people with an education.

and time is not a mathematical concept, nor is it an equation. It is a dimension. Time would exist whether human life evolved or not. Just because we measure it relative to our position in the universe doesn't mean that we created it.

if your watch stops, then time has stopped. I read that out of all the humans that had Hep vaccinations in the seventies half now have AIDS, true fact.

lmao and she's back on the gear again..mom here i come

so you traveled outside our galaxy and verified that. Your positive that although from our galaxy the universe seems to be expanding its the same all over the universe, every galaxy is expanding. Time would exist if there was no human life, are you sure, how do you know what it would be called by another higher lifeform, time is the term we created to describe the measure of our daily habits to give limits to life. How did the caveman tell time then, did it exist form them, how did the survive without knowing it was there. Most people who speak of dimensions are hippy stoners and don't know dimensions are another form of mathematics.

^Exactly! Time=measurement tool

Diesel you are about negative 8 years of college to even ponder the question, just worry about not shooting up for the next couple of days and holding down a job.

I was gonna flame (and probably still will), but if I may...

What is time ?, is perhaps the better question.

For example... our time as a human race depends on how long our sun will burn, because thats what powers our solar system.

But the life of 1 single sun compared to "The Universe" is laughable.

So I think, more importantly it is better to not shoot up heroin and spend valuable time pondering about with dip shit questions, and get my ass to rehab... and a job !

^^^^ Hope this helps !

Our universe has existed for nearly 14 billion years, and as far as most people are concerned, the universe should continue to exist for billions of years more.
But according to a new paper, there's one theory for the origins of the universe that predicts time itself will end in just five billion years?coincidentally, right around the time our sun is slated to die.
The prediction comes from the theory of eternal inflation

the big rip theory sounds like spaghettification.

I came across that hypothesis too. I don't particularly think that will be the case, but who am I to say it's outlandish? The cosmos in general is mind blowing and the possibilities are seemingly endless. There is evidence of that in this thread. Bring up something people don't understand - they respond by yelling "DRUGS!" lol

dimensions are a necessary tool to describe the universe as we know it. As far as we know, there are 3 spatial dimensions, and 1 time dimension. String theory opened up the possibility for many more unseen dimensions. Some variations allow for up to 26 dimensions.

Trying to sift through your rubbish you seem to make a point about time not being time if it's not called that. You can call it whatever you want. It is a way to order events. When time stops existing, there can be no more space.

No I have not traveled outside the galaxy, but I have read virtually every published study on this stuff and there is a consensus among the smartest men on earth that the universe is expanding at an accelerating rate. Galaxies are moving further away from us.The galaxies themselves aren't expanding though.

but who cares about evidence right?

These aren't dipshit questions. These are questions that have been asked since the earliest days of the human race. These are questions about how our reality works.

Ok matt damon, this aint good will hunting the sequal, your on a BB forum. I don't have reached my knowledge limit on this subject but I'll leave you with this truth, time ends for everyone at some point in their life. what happens when time ends, you die. And if you believe in after life maybe you will be received elsewhere.

Please explain to me the correlation between physics/cosmos and heroin.

The correlation is while on heroin, your mind is in an altered state and anything is possible. Don't say you're not still on either, we all know better. GICH.

I wonder if Diesel got enough information to finish his book report due friday :coffee:

dose618 writing his phd while living with his mom and training client in her basement who just happen to be his rehab counselor and shooting heroin on his breaks..all in a day's work

Time is a measurement between events. It will never end. There will always be some event whether its natural or supernatural.

btw, stay off drugs...

This, time is simply a way of marking in regular increments any actions or lack of actions that move from genesis to finality. 'The end' is just another one of those increments used by those who need a structure to suggest some point of perpetual non action.

The question is why things move only from genesis to finality.

Answer that.
