Ok. well i go to the gym, for about 40 minutes do my routine, and when i get home 30 minutes later i have a whey protein thing
its called 100% whey from GNC
21 grams a scopp i have one a day
im almost 200 lbs
considering i eat healthy is that enough whey? I want results fast

Why do you wait 30 minutes? Take it right when you get home, there is no need to wait. Fast results? It takes a while. You can see it as you move along, but you wont see super fast results. People will tell you to get atleast a gram of protein per pound of body weight, so you want to get atleast 200 grams of protein a day. You didnt list how much protein you get from normal food, but if you dont eat a lot of meat and other protein foods, then 21 grams wont be enough. You can take 2 scoops after your workout since its only 21 grams per scoop. And its not a protein "thing" its called a "shake" ;)

well i just have a powder in a bag so i make my own
its my own "shake" :hmmm: or sometihng
anyway i eat little chicken tenders
salads
sandwiches
i try to restrain from fat foods as much as possible
also is 40 minutes enough at the gym
i work myself at each station untill i cant even the the weight to move a little bit anymore
the gym is hammer strength, freeweights, and there are these machines with pulles where you put the pin into where you want the weight to be

That question is loaded with 100 "if's"...

Just having whey does not mean you will 'get results' - your total diet intake, your training, your age, your genetics, your lifestyle and a multitude of other things will impact on whether or not taking one scoop of whey will impact on things.

eg:
what type of results do you want?
what else do you eat each day?
what do you do at the gym?
do you eat anything else with the whey after you train?

We need to know a lot more about you before we can comment.

If it is only your second day at the gym then you don't need to really concern yourself about the 'specifics' of dieting etc at the moment. You just need to get the basics down.

I suggest you read this thread:
Guide to... and you could also check out this post for some more information.

You might also want to look over in the training section/forum to get some idea's for your training.

guess il do that
is there any limit to the ammount of whey that you should take?
At your size you probably want a serve to be 1.5 scoops.

And I would limit it to 1.5 scoops PWO and, possibly, 1.5 scoops at another time during the day if you need a quick protein source (eg: added to oatmeal in the morning for breakfast).

Sounds like you need some guidance in the training department. Screw machines for now. You need to build up your ability to stabilize weights and learn proper motor patterns from the start. Check out this writeup I did. There is a special excerpt for beginners to resistance training toward the end of the main thread:

I'm not telling you not to lift weights. I'm telling you to use freeweights. Machines are not what beginners should be using. The squat rack is your friend.

I agree. You'll see the best results with freeweights. You'll have to start light, but once you get the form down and eat right you will make great gains.

By the way, at 17, 200 pounds, with only 2 days in the gym... are you sure you want to be gaining weight instead of losing it right now? It might be a better idea to cut before trying to gain weight. It'll give you some time to get the hang of proper form using free weights, plus you could use that gym membership to the fullest by doing weights and cardio.

i have a good muscle base under my thick layer of fat
thats what I want to do first is drop the blubber
maybe i was misinformed, but thats how i though you were to lose fat
eat and excercize. and i do do cardio, but not as much as im supposed to

If you're trying to cut fat, diet is key. Use the whey protein only to balance your diet.

I cannot believe a seventeen year old has this much trouble with the english language. Listen to CP for training, and Emma for dieting, these guys are loaded with info. Not to mention the stickies are your freind.

To lose the fat:
Eat less calories than you burn
Do this over a substantial period of time
Eat food with enough protein
Ensure you get your essential fats
Eat enough carbs as are required based on lifestyle, personal preferences and your bodies ability to use/despence of carbs
Train with heavy weights at a sufficient frequency
Train with large, compound movements where possible
Training with free weights if possible (offer some advantages over machines)
Add cardio as required (a bit is advantageous in that it increases calorie loss, increases insulin sensitivity, increases partitioning and improves your general health... but too much can be detrimental and hamper losses).

There is no 'magic formula' - it just takes hard work and time.

That's a good attitude, I hope you really stick with it. I can't emphasize cleaning up your diet enough.. if you go to the main "Diet & Nutrition" forum page, you will notice that there are a couple threads at the very top that are "stickies" -- read those and understand them. I believe there is a grocery list of good food choices: carbs, proteins, fats.. check it out, you want to make sure you get enough of each macronutrient.

Emma said to eat less calories than you burn, but make sure you are eating enough. Breaking your eating into 5 or 6 smaller meals will keep your body going all day, and your metabolism higher. Keep in mind, when you are eating "clean," you are getting less calories than if you were eating the same number of meals at Burger King, so definately make sure you are eating enough. And don't think "fats" are bad.. you need good fats to lose weight.

Keep us posted, and don't be afraid to ask questions!

GNC is overpriced,I buy my whey from the VitaminShop. I dont think 21grams of whey is enough. I consume 160grams of protein (1per lbs of weight) and about half comes from Whey.
