Just wanted to know if there's anybody here who built muscle like the way I did. I mean, I never used any supplements whatsoever during my body building process because the program I follow doesn't allow me to. Saying that it won't do me any good in the future. But don't get me wrong. I don't have anything against people who uses supplements. My opinion is just that building muscle in a natural way is much healthier and safer to your body than doing it with supplements.

lol he's talking about 'supplements' . . you dig?? ;)

Natural may be safe, but the potential is much smaller. ;)

If you are fine with "settling", then stay natural. :coffee: I, on the other hand, want to maximize by body's potential. :D

I'm having a difficult time understanding your post. You speak of supplements as if they're unsafe and unnatural and create some "cheated" physiques. And what kind of program do you follow that doesn't "allow" you to take supplements? There is no way of monitoring someone's protein shake or multivitamin consumption. You can pretty much achieve the same results in bodybuilding without supplements if you make necessary diet adjustments. Unfortunately, people often don't have the time to sit there and prepare 40g protein meals 5-6 times per day.

Agreed.

Supplements are really just strategically using natural amino acids, macronutrients, micronutrients, and phytochemicals. It's no different than going out and buying, say, whole wheat pasta. Did you harvest the wheat and make the dough? Nope. It's okay, though. It's still natural.

I understand that supplments don't exist in the wild -- that is until we have creatine trees -- but the majority of people on this planet don't eat food that is completely natural.

i think i used the wrong term...well you guys know what i'm talking about...supplements...ughhh i can't explain it! i'm not talkin' bout the vitamins and stuffs...but those which are specific for body building...like what i said i got nothin' against supplements...just wanted to know if anybody here was able to achieve a pro like body without usin' it or is it even possible?

what do you do for a living? this is how people act when they have something there hiding. if its steroids your talking about, i dont use them i use creatine and whey protein.:dont:

i dont understand the question. anything on top of your diet would be considered supplemental and therefore a supplement. some of them are extremely healthy, some of them are very beneficial to training. that said, with supplements you can achieve and excellent physique, but you will never look like professional bodybuilders.

Choosing not to use supplements is a valid decision. Everyone gets to make up their own mind on this subject. I have no problem with natural lifters. If you believe this is the right way for you, more power to you. As far as being safer, that is a whole different debate. Pros use supplements because they work, and competing without them is not possible at the top levels of the sport. Not everyone trains to get their pro card. But I also don't see this as a moral decision. I think that is just propaganda perpetuated by people who have been sold a bill of goods. Just my opinion.

Lol are you scared to say the word "steroids"? :roflmao:

Is it even possible to reach your maximum potential in strength, mass and leaness without a supplement?

depends on your viewpoint, i believe yes. you will reach an unaltered maximum potential. obviously exogenous hormones take that and raise the level significantly, and its not something that some people will ever use, so that isn't their max potential, (if you understand my viewpoint).

By this definition that seems to elude to cheating, couldn't any form of technology then be considered a "supplement"? Using online diet logs like fitday -- supplement; using this forum to get advice -- supplement; reading academic journals of the work of other people -- supplement; heart rate monitor -- supplement; chalk, weight belt, gloves, straps, and any other weight lifting accessory -- supplement; food scale -- supplement; athletic shoes -- supplement.

It's a matter of semantics, really, but ultimately just about anything can be considered a supplement. Whether you're on gear or not (I'm not), there's nothing natural about this sport. We're using a different shapes/forms of weighted resistance tools and moving them in various ways with our body, while manipulating macro and micronutrients, to create muscle tissue according to personal and social views of what looks appealing.

Not everyone bodybuilds/strength trains for this reason, but as far as true bodybuilding goes that's what it's all about. There is nothing natural about that. The human body isn't designed to be 230 lbs of shredded muscle. That's very counterproductive to survival, as it raises the metabolic demands (i.e. in times of famine the muscular dude will die sooner).

There is "cheating" and then there's using science to conveniently group the macro/micronutrients, amino acids, etc, that we need to put our body in the ideal state to achieve our dream physique.

I do understand your viewpoint and agree. Of course that brings up why would anyone want to try to reach an unaltered maximum potential without any supplementation at all?
Is there some ideological superiority in that?

I do know all of the answers to these questions, just trying to make sense of some peoples reasoning for doing what they choose to do or not do.

I think I just used a supplement reading Phineas. Not for the first time, I might add. There are some folks on here who post information that gets me to thinking and researching what I'm doing. That to me is as valuable as any source of information at my disposal. I just happen to be someone who thinks that the use of AAS falls under the same category as sharing information and training methods. It all comes down to the science of training. And I don't think the word "cheating" applies to any of it.

I am currently training clean. I am not taking any supplements, and don't plan to for some time. My goal now is to have a diet that provides everything I need, and save the money I would blow on supplements and buy a cycle of AAS and HGH sometime far in the future.

That's a pretty respectable and somewhat difficult task in knowing what's in every food you take in to make sure all of your nutrient and mineral requirements are met.

the most improvement I have made with my partner as a couple training is by cleaning up the diet. Once we switched to a complete low carb lifestyle, the bodies looked much better. There's something to be said about diet.
