i dont quite understand the physiological cues leading to the feeling of hunger.

Is it a drop in the blood-glucose level or the emptying gastro-instestinal (GI) tract?

the fact that a high fibre diet delay the onset of hunger makes me think that it is the emptying of the GI tract. this is supported by the observation that you stop feeling hungery immediately after you eat, even the nutrient is not digested and absorbed

on the flip side, diabetics always feel hungery despite they eat a lot and thereofore a constantly occupied GI tract. that is becasue they cannot maintain a normal blood-glucose level, and it is the drop of blood-glucose level makes them hungery.

anyone care to comment?

lol.....If you want an answer to that, I suggest you purchase a book at amazon.com and read up.

It can be a number of things....and some things which are still unknown.

I feel hungry cause I have an eating disorder, and can't stop eating. :D

First step is admitting it, but I don't want to fight it, so I have come to accept it :D

well you are refering to the biological reasons we are hungry, psycological reasons we get hungry would be something like why women eat a bucket of ice cream when they get dumped or something. In short the "feeling of hunger" comes from the hypothalamus when it releases a series of hormones, one is grehlin, this causes your stomach to make the "growling noises". all this stuff happens because your blood sugar levels drop and your liver signals the hypothalamus to get some more glycose. Fiber on the other hand doesnt delay hunger it just digests through the stomach faster and moves to the intestines where more hormones are released telling your body to stop eating, giving you the illusion that you are full.

i hope that answers some questions

Gr8 reply dude! That had some good, basic info, thanks :thumb:

I guess the most simple answer is because we require food for energy and life processes and the brain can sense when we require it. I doubt that helps anything. There can be so many different factors.

so is it fair to say that hunger is not always indicative of catabolism? becasue low blood-glucose/low glycogen is not the sole cause of hunger.

I am just really paranoid when i am hungery, i think my brain is eating up my muscle. and if i go 3 hours without eating, i get paranoid even that i am not hungery. (thats a bit exaggerated, its not as bad as i depicted)

Why do we need to have an explanation for everything

The title of this reply is to get people to think in a different perspective. I am an engineer which is synonomous with logic/math/science/etc. I have been studying the human body for many years and the common concensus that I get from the case studies, abstracts, and other health papers is the simple fact that we, as humans, have not figured everything out when it comes to the human body. If a person is hungry then they need to eat....end of story. If you try to find out why, then you might as well look for Jimmy Huffa's body. We will get the answer eventually, but maybe we should answer another question first. Why do we care and if we know that answer then we should look at what to do to solve that need. I have been asking that question "Why am I hungry" for along time, because I want to get my body fat content below 15%. I am trying to lose the body fat but because I love to lift, I try to eat fiberous diets and a good amount of protein.

I am not trying to come across as a prick I am just suggesting taking a different track on this instead of looking for the exact answer. I was also trying to save in living costs but my stomach was making a lot of noise. I eventually solved the problem by simply cutting cost else where and eating the high protein and fiber diets and I have controlled that hunger pain.

Please, tak this as it is and I bid you a good night.
