Watching the movie Super Size Me today (bought it) and one of the doctors in it made a good point. We pass laws against smoking, tax against cigarettes, and we're actively rude to people who smoke when we are non smokers. I know I choose to not hang out with someone if they are smoking.
Obesity is now the 2nd highest controllable cause of death in North America behind smoking. When you see a fat person stuffing their face, why don't we make fun of them and have anti obesity legislation and high taxes on unhealthy food? Maybe if cookies and chips were twice as expensive people wouldn't buy them? Maybe if we had campaigns against overeating like we do against smoking and people passing laws forcing schools to give children exercise we would be better off.
Any opinions? Why is it not politically correct to call someone fat but it's okay to degrade smokers?
