Cindy Sheehan asked President Bush, "Why did my son have to die in Iraq?"

Another mother asked President Kennedy, "Why did my son have to die in Vietnam?"

Another mother asked President Truman, "Why did my son have to die in Korea?

Another mother asked President F.D. Roosevelt, "Why did my son have to die at Iwo Jima?"

Another mother asked President W. Wilson, "Why did my son have to die on the battlefield of France?"

Yet another mother asked President Lincoln, "Why did my son have to die at Gettysburg?"

And yet another mother asked President G. Washington, "Why did my son have to die near Valley Forge?"

Then long, long ago, a mother asked, "Heavenly Father, why did my Son have to die on a cross outside of Jerusalem?"

The answers to all these are similar ???

"that others may have life and dwell in peace, happiness and freedom."

This was emailed to me with no author and I thought the magnitude and the simplicity was awesome...

That is the an answer, the right answer is that they made a commitment and should keep up their end of the bargain, regardless of what it's for.

That kind of mentality is what killed over 58,000 of our troops in Vietnam... fighting a war for the purpose of fighting a war is not a good reason.

But yeah, that email is bullshit. Comparing Presidents to God as MyK said... and I'm pretty sure Jesus WAS AGAINST VIOLENCE AND WAR. It amazes me the amount of religious people who support this war, especially people such as Pat Robertson. People are so committed to religion that they overlook what the point of it even is.

"that others may have life and dwell in peace, happiness and freedom."
And I'm pretty sure Jesus's death has not affected our lives... afterlifes possibly. We do not live currently with peace, happiness, and freedom because of anything Jesus did.

Yes, but the reality of it is that people who take on a commitment and shun it aren't necessarily the people I want supporting my cause. I am against the war and all, but would take the words of a man who is doing his job and speaking out vocally about it more seriously than someone who outright refuses to do the job.

Are you implying that religious people are hypocrites? :)

I agree with all of your post.

Ummmm, Jesus didn't die to give us peace, happiness, and freedom at all. That is kind of a stupid ending to that whatever it was IMO.

Statistically speaking, if Jesus were alive today, he would not like 95% of you. It is a proven fact that there are a lot more douchebags around now than there were back then, myself included.

He would also be thrown in a mental hospital and deemed crazy.

Blasphemer. I think what Jesus did was great and all, but I don't think he would have the self-restraint to not tell someone to fuck off in this day and age.

"that the rich people may get richer, and the poor, poorer. that the worlds only superpower will liberate these countries by installing a dictator that can take orders from washington. that these nations may have vast amounts resources we need to control. that George Bush and all his friends stocks can rise 0.5%."

I agree 100%. :clapping:

Jesus would be like, "Damn you have nail guns, electric saws and laser levels? Hell compared to how hard I had to work before I'm gonna milk this job ."

There are examples of God commanding war. Was it done for joy? Of course not, war and violence is not condoned if there is no purpose.

Yes, the Old Testament is filled with them. I did say Jesus, referring to the New Testament. Side note: this does show the contradictions in the Bible... Jesus is all about loving one another, turning the other cheek, making peace, etc. There is not a single verse in the New Testament to justify any war. However, God in the Old Testament was much like a warrior himself, commanding war, punishing people, and even killing people Himself (And he smote the men of Bethshemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter (1 Samuel 6:19 (King James Version)).

Most Christians go by the Just War Theory, however.

I was always surprised at your frequent mocking of religion/religious people. Your opinions are obviously fine (actually, anythings fine.. it's your board), but I've heard you say several times you would like to eventually live off the fat of Ironmagazine.com. That being the case, it might be wise to recognize the fact that religous people far outnumber the non-religious (though not at this site, for obvious reasons), and having the owner of a company make fun of them or call them hypocrites will turn many people off, myself included.

Busy, you just have to realize there are people out there that have no respect for others beliefs. Don't let these people get to you. They're obviously not worth it.

So, placing a Shiite government with ties to Mamoud Ahmadinejad and Sharia law mean that "others may have life and dwell in peace, happiness and freedom?"

I am a little confused.

Can you say this to the Kurds?

Can you say this to the Sunnis in the Al-Anbar province?

Thanks - if - you can answer this.

Serve?

No one has.

Being in the military is a JOB.

You sign up for it.

You get paid. You get medical. You get benefits.

If you get killed, that's terrible, but that's what you decided to do, for you JOB.

The original poster should have never equating 9/11 with the American Marine Corps, nor the military.

This is shameless.

Al-Qaeda are a group of twiest and sick individuals who did this.

They are not a nation-state: using the military is only a small answer.

Iraq is not the answer.

People care more about other people hearing their own opinion then anything. Half of the people who don't support Bush, The War, the State of the Union, do so only because they want to fit in. Stop being so fake and find some kind of REAL values to lean on, because the one's you have now don't equate to maturity irregardless of what you may think. You aren't helping this country through your negativity, and until President Bush breaks a law I'm pretty sure he's here to stay for a couple more years, so just stop and deal with it.
