To answer your question, I honestly say no. I think it's part of being a male. Always wanting to be bigger and better then the one standing next to you. Getting compliments works both in a good and bad way. Good in making you realize that others notice your efforts and dedication. Bad in making you want more of it, pushing yourself to achieve something that "might" (I use that word extremely lightly) never be attainable in ones life time.
I'd say as long as your wife is happy with the way you look, then you should be happy as well. You say you owe her big time, start putting some effort and dedication towards her. Not trying to be a life coach
