Lie for a job?

A large amount of American job hunters have bogus credentials on thei resume's.

"Almost everyone lies on their resume. That includes everyone from CEOs to security guards. Over half of human resources managers say they've flagged a lie on an applicant's résumé, according to an October Careerbuilder.com survey"

It could be add fake qualifications to your resume? Lie about how much time you've been in a job? Etc.....

If the chances of being found out were slim.........

People lie all the time and aren't aware of it.

I wouldn't make big lies, but yeah I may lie.

I don't lie on resumes. though.

For example I would appear happy, energetic and positive in an interview even if I don't feel like so. I may also answer certain questions about my outlook faslely, they expect the bullshit though.

Interviews are one big bullshit parade.

I wouldnt outright lie, no. In my experience if you say you can do something when you cant you WILL get called on it somewhere down the line and look like a bullshitting waste of space.

Everybody does the un-usually cheerful, driven, "so happy at the thought of working here ill verbally suck your cock" routine in the interview though. Even if you really do want to work there you're gonna put a shine on things.

I told my last employers that the reason i wanted to work in the public sector rather than private was that because private was far too money oriented and i wanted to help the local community instead.

I.e. - Pay me very little because i will work hard regardless because of my morals.

It was somewhat true, i do love my local community and i do think that private sector businesses can be ruthless in order to make a buck, but to be honest im just happy when i get a paycheck to spend on new sheep lures and woolen dry-cleaning.

I'm actually rather straightforward and honoust in interviews. However, I do act 'happy, energetic, and positive' as fufu said.

i wouldn't lie on the resume. no way to backpeddle.

presenting the side you want to accent/highlight while giving yourself the opportunity to change the degree of the 'lie' will be easier in person.

naturally i'd never lie myself into a job that i couldn't do.

I once lied in an interview and said my GPA was 3.76, when in actuality it was only 3.67. And they never asked for my transcript once I got the job! LOL!

I know of several instances where people have been caught fabricating information on their resumes...and they suddenly disappear from the workplace.

Its a lot more common than people think especially in fortune corps that have the resources to fund HR for cross reference.

I can stand on my own I don't have to lie. The job I have now I interviewed for it in my bosses truck on my way home from my previous job in a tank top and board shorts and dirty tennis shoes. It was pretty simple, "So you graduated top 5 in High School?" "Yes"(I just left out that their were only 25 in the graduating class ) and "You graduated #1 in your Navy A School?" "Yes" (Just didn't tell him it was way too easy) "And you Graduated top of your College Class with Honors and 4.0 GPA?" "Yes (but he didn't ask where so I didn't tell him it was community college night school, hell anyone should be able to at least get over 3.0 at one of those right?)

I know I could work anywhere hell I had my own Computer Tech Consulting Business for a while, but I really like my job it seems to be a rapidly advancing sector, you know I missed the Computer Tech Bubble I'm hoping I can ride this new wave of alternative energy out and make some good money along the way...

You know what is really cool about this business I'm in now? I am working with guys and meeting guys who started some of these big name companies in their garages just like Steve Jobs, Paul Wozniak and Bill Gates, etc. I have met several of the founding engineers of Trace Engineering which most would know as Xantrex now, these guys went on to develop Outback Power Systems one of the biggest names in Solar Energy now. I am working under one of the gurus of Solar Energy for all the Islands of Hawaii most of the guys who have been installing for a long time learned what they know from him and he has sat in a conference room and had arguments about code issues with the guy who pretty much wrote the NEC rules for PV. We were just talking about it the other day how a lot of these guys started in Recreational Agriculture installing PV for light rooms in a basement and now they are the big names in the industry. Then there is my boss who started welding solar hot water collectors in his garage back in the 70's and now has one of the biggest manufacturing facilities in the country. He is well known to almost everyone who's been in the business for many years and he has been a very big force in getting Tax Credits pushed in Hawaii and Cali

If you lie on your resume or during an interview, get the job, and then your employer finds out you lied, you'll probably get fired. And that stays with you. Try explaining that termination to your next potential employer. Not a good idea to lie.

No need to lie. Luckily I've done most everything that I could possibly need to get good IT jobs. It's good to be a jack of all trades AND an expert in one

That said I have made up some examples of things that I have done, but only because I couldn't remember the actual ones that I did. I never ever say something that I can't back up with knowledge or experience though.

Thats a very small lie, but one worth doing. You could always blame a typo or mistake.

I think Monkey man has it best: baffle with BS that you can somehow proove, even though not strictly true.

Employers love a certain style of writing: Even if it actually means nothing.

I don't think there is anything that wrong in doing it, after all employers are expecting more and more unrealistic qualifications/ experience these days, so I don't blame anybody who says Fuck it: Lets even the field.

I've not done it, but i think I'd find it very satisfying (albeit scary) to beat the 'system' in this way.....and some of the more smug graduates and ass lickers.
