Wrist strap question

I just bought a pair of wrist straps for doing shrugs and lat pull downs. I still havnt tried them out yet. I was wondering how people wrap the second strap around the bar while the first hand is wraped up? Maybe it's too soon for me to ask because i havnt tried it yet, but is it possible to wrap it with the hand that being wraped? Ha..does that make sense?

Use the hand with more dexterity to wrap the other hand first. You should be able to wrap the hand with more dexterity without assistance, although at first it may take a few tries to get it snug.
 
Actually I have seen it done two ways:
1) Super experts just break-in the straps so they are flexible enough to just fling it at the bar and let momentum wrap it around the bar by it's self and quickly grasp it as it pulls tight. This is very impressive to watch but I have never mastered the technique.
2) The other one is as indicated above. Put on the hand opposite your favored hand first (e.g. left if you are right handed) and use other hand to get it all tight. Then, put on the favored hand using fingers and small gripping, pushing/pulling, re-tightening motions.

It becomes a ritual and a great way to get psyched up for the big lifts.

thats what i do, i got good at doing them both just by flinging it around the bar. :D i feel talented.
 
I wrap each strap with one hand only, you dont need two hands. You also do not want them so tight that you cut off your circulation, so you dont need 3 hands to get them around the bar.

Just let the strap hang and grab it on the other side of the bar with that same very hand, then start wrapping, and then when you have enough turns (I go 2 turns normally) you can start cinching your hand like a motorcycle to get your desired tightness.

I have a clip where you can see a little of this, my right strap was too far over on the wrist and was turning over so I had to adjust.

Hey Mudge, is the guy in that video doing those shrugs with correct form? It looks at though he's rolling his shoulders forward. I thought that shrugs were a straight up-and-down motion. Otherwise you risk hurting your back (the same goes for looking down during shrugs).

I am not rolling my shoulders but I do lean forward a small amount, if you lean back then you are going to be pulling it against your thighs all day, and you can save that for your deadlifts.

Could you post to a video of you doing a deadlift. It would be nice to see an example other than an animated gif.
 
I haven't done deadlifts in ages, I do good mornings for my erector work and thats it for now.

Deadlift Clip Here is a clip for you, its probably 505x9 or something.

This is going to sound stupid, but...is a deadlift considered a leg or a back exercise? In some books/websites I find is listed in the leg section and in other I find it listed in the back section.

That's what I do, but I am far from a super expert. :D It just takes a little practice.

BTW, I only use the straps for shrugs and heavy deadlifts. I'd lose them for the lat pulldowns, aubrtole. Your arms will get stronger that way.
 
I don't believe in wrist straps for most things.

Only for real heavy deadlifts.

& I use the left hand palm facing up, & right hand palm facing down grip along with the straps "if I need them".

You use abs and legs in the bottom portion of the movement, so if you want to do deads weekly I'd go for rack pulls instead. The intensity of the movement either way though is taxing so if you are doing lots of squats AND deads you may overtrain, so keep those things in mind when feeling out your recovery abilities. Many people will not do squats and deads in the same week, but deads are primarily a back movement - but again its heavily compound like a squat.

What do you mean by "go for rack pulls"?

Can you tell I'm a n00b?
