Marines/Army/Navy/Airforce

As of late I have been training with the school's Army ROTC program, just to get my feet wet. I'm bent on being a Marine Officer - only in ROTC for the military leadership minor and to have a good time (it really is fun).
I've come to see some disrespect however. Rivalries are one thing, but disrespect is another. They don't say it to my face, but you know it when it's going on, and you feel it all around you. They wonder why I chose the Corps over Army, and that makes me more confused than ever. They honestly think that the Army is better than the Marine Corps. Bigger, more diverse, yes. Better than a Marine? Not a chance.

I'm wondering what YOU would choose (notice the Uncle Sam YOU! placement) if you joined the military. Do you too love the Army? Or would you belong with the Marines? Navy and Airforce are in the equation as well.

Just a curiosity thread. What department would you join. Not attempting to get some unnecessary comments - I'm not even going to create a "I wouldn't join" option.

Personally, I'm biased toward the Corps for the obvious reasons but I love all the branches.

The first time I came under indirect fire was in Bosnia. A serbian mortar crew was bracketing us in with soviet 82mm. It was an Air Force F-16 that came in and vaporize them off their mountainside position. Yea... I like flyboys.

And then there was the time I got a blowjob from a Navy Chick behind the enlisted club at Coronado Bay.... Good times.

Ummm, if I wanted to be comfortable I'd join the Navy or Air Force.(probably air force). It is to my knowledge that the Marines would be the most challenging branch...but it probably depends on a ton of shit. I'd say Marines if I was there to not be a pussy and wanted to help and challenge myself. Not saying people in the Air Force and Navy are pussies and don't help(because that would be a complete lie), I am just saying for myself.

My best friend is in the Army Infantry though...hmm I don't know.

#2 Marines - You can't find a more proud branch with damn good reason to be proud.

#3 Navy - Actual jobs are about the same as Air Force, but you have to do them out to sea for six to twelve months at a time.

#4 (Only as a last resort) Army - They have some great history to be proud of, but they're treated like dirt and most of them end up acting that way.

I would choose air force, because I could learn some great skills.

When I was first out of high school, I was close to joining the marines, but didn't. I guess I thought the marines were just cool. If money wasn't an option, and I had to serve, I would probably go with marines.

Most of the losers from my high school joined the army. I hope the matured a little bit, but they were destined for failure in civilian life. I think the army was a good option for them.

When my mother passed away in 98 (father passed in 95) I looked into the Marines. Being 18 years old without family was tough, and I needed direction. Unfortunately my knee kept me out.

My Father is an X Marine so obviously my choice is a bit biased. But if you can handle it, go for it. One of the most respect branches of military IMO. My second choice would be the Airforce. Especially if you are in the smarter group as you can go farther quicker.

I was in the Navy so I am biased, you can try SEALs if you think you can do it....The sailors get to travel to more ports, in several different countries. Their is a lot of awesome technology that goes into a ship, the communications where I worked, alone were some very high tech stuff so it's a good learning experience. Navy officers have it made when out to sea, they have their own berthing usually shared with one other guy, they eat special food. If you like aircraft the Navy has a lot of that too. If you get a chance to be stationed on a carrier it's like a large city and there are plenty of horny Navyhos...so it's not like you'll have to do without for the 6 month deployments.

I know, I don't plan on raping or pillaging. However, I hope to ocme back and end these damn political arguments once and for all, where "extreme liberal" will come in and say that the war is worse than a viking raid, and then the "extreme conservative" comes in and says everything is going great.

Well, I think it all depends what job you choose. Everyone thinks Infantrymen are a bunch of idiots. Frankly, they don't have the slightest clue what being infantry entails.

You tell a Delta Force, Ranger, or Special Forces member that they are "dirt" and you'll be lucky if you feel your face hit the dirt before you die.

Guys with Tabs are generally pretty self-confident, motivated and supremely respected.

Now.. the "regular rank-and-file" may seem to be "below average" but I really don't feel that way. People may say there are dumb-asses in the Army but that's only because there are tens of thousands more members in the Army. It's a statistical probability that's unavoidable. There are also a lot of highly respected, intelligent, and motivated service members who go on to make outstanding careers both in the Army and out.

Like I said in my previous post. I'm always going to be a Marine no matter what Branch I serve in. But in truth, I value all Branches. They all have their distinct place whether it be providing close air support, logistical transport, support by fire, or blow jobs behind the enlisted club at Coronado Bay

Veteran Marines

Marines and those familiar with Marine Corps tradition will often object to the use of the term "ex-Marine" or "former Marine" because Marines are inculcated with the ethos "Once a Marine, always a Marine". The terms "former" or "ex" refer to something that once was, but is no longer as Col Wesley L. Fox, USMC (Ret.) states in the welcoming theater video at the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

Veteran Marine refers to an individual that completed their service and has received an honorable or general discharge from the service (visit [1] and see Veteran Marine). Marines who have retired are commonly called "retired Marines". However, addressing any veteran Marine, "Marine", which they still are, is appropriate. Veteran Marines may be addressed as "Sir" or "Ma'am" out of respect, or, according to the "Commandant's White letters" from Commandant General Gray until present, by their earned rank.[50]

Marines who have disgraced the Corps and Marines who receive a dishonorable discharge are referred to as "ex-Marines" or "former Marines".
