Hello everyone

Would like to know something pretty basic, please dont get angry.Does a person have to do reps until failure to get any muscle growth at all? I mean even if you dont go to that limit muscle growth still does happen doesnt it?Another thing, when you lift weights is it permissible to lock out your joints at the apex of the move?Hoping for some reassurance and advice, please help.

First off training to failure all the time isnt a good idea. So no you do not have to go to failure.

Secondly locking out is not a good idea either.

it depends on how you want to shape your musicles, its all about how you want to design your body and look like.

There is no such thing. You cannot shape your muscles.

I want my triceps to be in the shape of a cat, what do i have to do get that?

Hello everyone
Thanks for the replies :) A couple more questions if I may so dare?Um, have read people say its never too old to start working out- that is right I hope? And well, for a rank beginner, is it bad to start off easy? I mean lower weights and something like one day on one day off routine? It's better to start doing stuff and sorta get your actions right, and get to like doing it first off right?*dont fall down laffin! :sob: *

I dont know where you've gotten the idea that we're going to get angry or laugh at you for being a beginner, but around here we're not into that so chill out, okay?

Read the stickies in the training and nutrition forums for some incredibly useful information. Its never too late to start, and all the power to you for making the decision :thumb:

Lower weights and more reps is best when starting. You develop tendon and joint strength at this point, something you need before you start lifting the heavy weights.

I know a weak guy who knows nothing. Post a thread....ask if you can shape a muscle. Better yet ask Pfunk if you can shape a muscle.

Can you shape your body by losing fat, gaining muscle? Yes. Can you actually shape a muscle a certain way? NO! You can make your muscles bigger, but genetics will play a role in the rest.

You can increase and decrease the size of a muscle but you can't shape a muscle. Look at different peoples legs and arms we are all built different some people have biceps that when well developed still don't become full towards the bend in their arms while others have more of a peak- no matter what exercises you do you can't change that. Same with legs, some people have more genetic quad development towards the knee- you can not change this position short of surgery. Chest too. Some people have more of a separation between their pecs- you can't change that- you can't develop a muscle if you have nothing there to work with. It's like that with back too, you can only add to what you have, not what doesn't exist.

Thank You.

Dont get me wrong, i know in the conventional sense you cannot shape muscle.. for example you wouldnt be able to turn whatever bodypart was mentioned above into a cat..

However surely certain specific workouts would enable different areas of your muslces to develop above other areas.
For example: if someone were to just do decline bench press, the lower part of there pects would grow, the upper would probably grow less im guessing.. threby sort of shaping. If you get my drift.. i dont know just a thought

This has been discussed on here numerous times. The majority of the opinons are it does not matter. Progression in exercise is important and variety is important, but to actually shape a muscle just doesnt happen. Do a search or something for that, theres tons of info on here about it.

By all means you are entitled to your opinon though. Just because the majority doesnt think so doesnt mean you cannot have your oen opinon. The thing is with the last guy he wanted to be a dick and that really gets you no where here.

You have to train to complete concentric failure everytime in order to spark muscle growth, if u dont pose a threat to your muscles why should they grow bigger and stronger?

You really need to start doing some reading.
