After much testing I finally found, at least for me, the secret to getting get huge calves for my size (18.5" circum on 5'9" frame). I thought I'd pass these along in hopes it might help others as I hear this is a tough area. By no means am I an expert, just passing along whats working for me.

  • found out that doing my squats with a 2x4 under my toes helped keep me from feeling like I was going to roll backyards so I started doing this regularly.
  • found that doing my calf raises with toes tipped inward and outward gave greater size. I'm up to little over twice my bodyweight x 2 sets each inward and outward at 40 reps.
  • found that doing calf raises from the side (using the side of the foot rather then the ball) gave me more ankle control, balance, and elongation.
  • found that doing my hamstring stretches with a 2x4 under my heels also helped increase power and size.
  • found all the above greatly increased my vertical jump and sprinting speed and gave better control of stopping during sports like soccer and basketball

Again just my training on one area I finally got a handle on. By no means am I an expert, just my two cents. Hope it helps someone :)

it puts the lotion in the basket?

calf = cowpimp's progeny
calve = leg muscle between the ankle and the knee

Wiki can be edited by anyone, this can't:
calf - Definitions from Dictionary.com :nerd:

Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) -
calf2 /kæf, kɑf/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kaf, kahf] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
???noun, plural calves /kævz, kɑvz/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kavz, kahvz] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation.
the fleshy part of the back of the human leg below the knee.

Maybe you meant this: Calf muscle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Now that we have that settled can we move on?

Is sarcasm getting lost these days?

P.S.
You left out the def for calve:
1.to give birth to a calf: The cow is expected to calve tomorrow.
2.
(of a glacier, an iceberg, etc.) to break up or splinter so as to produce a detached piece. ???verb (used with object)

It puts the lotion on the skin or else it gets the hose again!

Damn it, now I'm just confused. I thought calve was the back of the lower leg, and calves were the plural form.

I thought a calf was a baby cow.

P.S. This is what part of the alphabet would look like if q and r were eliminated.

bump.
