I've searched and I can't find any posts that would relate to me and I'm just confused. I am going to ship out to Great Lakes, IL for boot camp on January 7th, 2007. Right now I'm around 5'8" and weigh about 116lbs. I don't have hardly any upper body strength, which I'm going to need.I don't have weights at home and when I go to school I lift weights only on Mondays and Thursdays for about an hour.

I also need to gain weight (probably about 10 lbs or so) I always eat tons of calories and I never gain a bit.

So Is there something I should eat that will help me gain weight and should I take any supplement for my high metabolism so I can actually gain something?

Also should I get some weights maybe a barbell and dumbell set that I can adjust?

EDIT: Another thing, what would be a good work out routine for me?

What regular non-weight exercises will help me prepare for Boot Camp?

Run, push ups, sit ups, flutter kicks. But mostly run. If you're not gaining weight then eat more, you can always eat more and eat clean. Look at the stickies in the diet & nutrition section.

Yeah, what he said, with one exception. Do NOT try to gain weight!!! :finger: The exercises you'll be doing will be body weight exercises; push ups, pull ups, sit ups, etc. The less body weight you're carrying around the easier it'll be. Just do a lot of those exercises and cardio work, mostly running. :thumb:

P.S. Congrats on joining. Your country salutes you and honors your service.

God bless you man. It's people like you who volunteer to protect our country that allow the rest of us to live in peace. Thanks for your service and good luck.

If your trying to gain weight I would post your diet in the Diet and Nutrition section. I'm willing to bet your diet is off. Good luck with boot camp and God bless you.

Also to help prepare for boot camp I'd concentrate on exercises like weighted pull ups, weighted dips, and get a partner to help you do weighted push ups. this will help making body weight exercise a lot easer.

As long as you can crank out push ups and pulls ups, you should be okay strength wise in your upper body. The big problems for me were cardio (running 2-3 miles non-stop) and marching/standing for long periods. I would focus on running preparation (you do not want to be one of the people who show up and cannot run at least 1.5 miles non-stop, the instructors will tear you up) and on increasing flexibility.

IMO, the basic training model (of the Air Force at least) is geared towards smaller athletic troops. I would focus on that aspect rather than gaining weight.
