The state of our nation:

http://trava.kiev.ua/flvplayer.swf?file=/flv/americans.flv&autoStart=true

Sure it's a bit, sure it's loaded (like did the intentionally delete those that got the answer correct?) , but it's still f-ing sad people are THAT ignorant. I???m also not convinced it???s an American thing (this bit was intended ad American bashing no doubt) but a people thing. That is, I would like to see the same questions asked on the streets of other major cities of the world and see what answers they got.

Regardless, most Americans are ignorant of the world, their own country, etc, and it does not bode well for our fine Democracy. But, we are the victims of our own success in the world it seems. Visions of Rome no doubt???

Trivia: pick your favorite stupid person. Hard to pick from all that, but for some reason, the older gent not knowing how many world wars have been fought, really blew me away. He???s old enough to know better. I expect that from some dumb kid, but him? He???s old enough to be a vet.

wow, that is fucking great. those people are dumb as shit.

I wonder how many people the interviewed to compile that group of fuck ups?

That was hilarious. The funniest part was having some people locate Iran and France on the map and it was located where Australia was but they just changed the name.

Other noteable funny ones ..

Q: "In terms of the war on terror, who do you think should be the next country to invade?"

A: "We make a big blast crater out of the fucking middle-east, for all i care"

The other one was the black guy jogging with his headphones who didn't know what state KFC came from and then when asked what KFC stands for, he says, "Kentucky Fried Chicken"

Exactly!

If they'd interviewed me, they'd have simply left the shot on the cutting room floor.

Every country has idiots. That's not news.

What this really stems from is some Europeans (most?) believe that since they know so much about the countries that surround them, that they're somehow more "worldly".

They have to know about other countries because they sit right next to them and depend heavily on commerce with those countries.

It's like a diabetic saying that he chose to learn more about needles and blood sugar levels. He has no choice if he wants to live to a healthy age.

Name a country that start with U? Utah was an answer, do Americans not know where they live, as well as the difference between a country and a state?

What is the religion of Buddhist Monks? Several wrong answers.

How many World Wars have there been? Three.

What state did KFC originate? He did not know, then was asked what it stood for and he replied "Kentucky Fried Chicken", but still did not know the answer.

How many kidneys do we have? One.

How many Eiffel Towers are there in Paris? I would say about ten.

Where was the Berlin wall? He did not answer for awhile, then said Isreal.

I could go on and on, just a few I remember.

btw, I just asked my wife all of the above question and she answered everyone correct with one second, as should of every person on the street.

hahaha

I have no clue what the hell the Coalition of the Willing is. Is it the countries that were for the war in Iraq or something

the first Kentucky Fried Chicken was in Utah

the first Kentucky Fried Chicken was in Utah

Henryville, Indiana, Sanders passed through several professions in his lifetime. Sanders first served his fried chicken in 1930 in the midst of the Great Depression at a gas station he owned in North Corbin, Kentucky.

i plead mea culpa and consent the point

I am sure every country is like that, there are stupid people everywhere. But it looks worse in America because everyone has access to libraries, computers and school.

Ask about Canada one of your biggest commerce partners bet you still get the same stupid answers.

Thats crazy.

I think everybody should have at least a basic level of general knowledge, i mean, theres little excuse now because with all different forms of media we're subjected to i think everyone is bound to pick something up without actually going out to learn it.

Id be able to answer a lot of those questions, not all of them though. If somebody asked me questions about America id do a lot worse though, i have no idea which cities are in which states, where the states are, etc etc.

Geography is by far my weakest subject.

That video was shocking though. THEYRE BUDDHIST MONKS!! Take a wild fucking guess at their religion...

I bet that in the northern states, where such information is pertinent, people are more likely to know.

Most Americans just don't need to know. Unlike most countries, probably 95% or more, America is self-sustaining. Both in terms of food and entertainment. A person can spend years traveling in the US and still not see even half of it.

Commerce has little to do with it. This is plain stupidity, it's beyond ignorance. My serious take on this video is that it is just a compilation. I could make such a video in any country. However, there is some truth behind the video. Statistically, I believe Americans care a lot less (for whatever reason, patriotism included) about the world around them than Europeans and, also statistically, the average IQ is lower than in most European countries, especially in West America.

I was just reading something that stated that even though we (USA) are the wealthiest nation in the world, our educational system is behind that of both Europe and Asia.
Nice, eh?

Don't believe everything you read. Even when it is true, consider the forces acting only the issue.

I can't speak for the rest of the country, but the schools I went to are steadily becoming more and more terrible.

Maybe it's the inner city families moving to the suburbs and still treating it like a ghetto (THANKS FOR THAT), or maybe it's the NCLB dumbass legislation. No idea.

With wealth comes more responsiblities for work and less time dedicated to the family and growth of Children and the educational system.

I think we need to kill the teachers union.
Also, that no child left behind policy.
