Hey, I'm thinking of getting into Kettlebells for strength training and flexibility. Not to fuck wiith weights, but to compliment them.

Anyone have any exprerience with this type of program?

the hype is that the russians used them

Whenever I see kettlebells advertised online, I also see some bad ass russian ex military commando hyping them up, so im guessing they must be good!

Kettlebell training will turn you into a beast.
The swing is the basic movement and can easily be done with a dumbell.

Here's what I'm asking

Man, I think this is a legit question, and I guess I didn't get my message across.

I want to know if kettle bells are really beneficial and complimentary to weight training, or is this just this month's workout fad. My goals are strength and flexibility, and not necessarily building muscle mass.

There's a serious group of people out there who are increasingly demonstrating that kettle bells bring fexibility and strength to the table. I can't tell if this would compliment my routine and replace some of the daily dumbell clanging, or if its just a step above simple exercises.

Thats what I'm asking.

But but those strongmen in the cartoons were always lifting 70kg triangle shaped kettleballs :(

kettlebells are not dumbells. The are cannonballs with a handle welded to them. All of the movements engage the core, and usually have a big range of motion. Great for strength and metabolic condidtioning.
Add the swing to your warmup. As far as athletic performance goes, kettlebell training smokes isolation based weight training.
