Im loving the Muay Thai training at the moment, but theres not really anywhere to do it when im at home for half the year, so i was thinking of getting a heavy bag.

I've found some pretty good deals here and there so the bag itself isnt a problem, but actually installing it in my house is the bit im having trouble working out.

We dont have a garage or a basement, so i was wondering if anybody had any advice for either setting something up for outside, or some alternative equipment choices to train outside of my dojo in Cardiff.

Im probably gonna get some Thai Pads and gloves so i can train/spar with a friend, but some sort of equipment set up to train on my own would be great aswell as that for when they wanna get on with their own lives ;).

Im open to anything, cos at this point im tired of working hard only to have to layoff for months at a time for lack of equipment/opportunity, lol.

I have a heavy bag in the house, I bought the stand and everything. I use 16 oz gloves. but for muay tai, your going to want a muay tai bag which is longer and a bit slender than a heavy bag so you can work on low kicks. the stand i have has a place at the bottom where you can work in the lower portion of the bag. I LOVE THE HEAVY BAG WORKOUTS!!!!! GL

Yeah, heavy bag is really fun. Tough as hell, lol. Thats why i wanna keep it in my program all the time.

How much did that stand set you back? I didnt even know they existed, but looking around the net briefly and they look like there a few hundred $$$?

:-S

that is similar to the bag stand i have, i got the 80 lb heavy bag and the stand for a little over 200

Thats quite reasonable actually.

What brand was it? Ill hunt them down.

The one thing that looks a bit iffy about these things is that it looks like if i was kicking, id kick the bars before actually getting to the bag, lol.

Maybe its just the pictures.

Have you had any problems like that?

i dont remember the brand, i know the bag is everlast i dont remember the stand. and on mine i wouldn't have a problem kicking. i know mine is grey instead of white and i do not see the hook at the bottom on that white one. i got it from dick's. they had the kickboxing bag too.

the only thing i had a problem with was i dont have the weights on the bottom (yet) so i almost put the hole stand through the wall. so i HIGHLY recommend the weights. lol

Thats pretty cool...im gonna have to search this stuff up, lol.

Thanks man :)

Any other ideas are still welcome!

yes you can kick the bars if you are not paying attention. i like wave master. if you fill them with sand as opposed to water you can get a hell of alot of weight in them. they work wonders, and come in all diffrent sizes.

Have you got a link to those? Never heard of them either, lol.

That looks amazing! Lol!

Where did you find that? Hopefully it wont cost a packet.

Do you have something like that?

No, mine hangs from my rafters in the basement. Check out craigslist and ebay.

like i said if you use water they are ok. put sand in them they freaking rock. only problem with sand is it makes them a total pain in the ass to move. most places just use the water.

DONT GET THAT. It only holds like an 80lb bag or w.e. i got a 200lb bag for mine and it shakes and rattle everytime i hit it. What I did was hung it from a treet outside. Also do you have any training or you learning by yourself? and dont spar with freinds only spar at an actualy gym.

This is the exact model that I own.

Is it any good? What brand is it?

How easy is it to kick the bars that surround the bag?

I wish i had a damned basement or something.

Yeah, currently training Muay Thai in my gym down here, but half the year i live somewhere else and cant travel back and forth so need a bag to practice some stuff on.

And dont worry, my friends do MA aswell so we'll only do some light sparring/pad work like we do in classes anyways.

I was thinking of hanging something off a tree, but i know ill get shit from the council, lol.

String it up every time you use it?

How about stealing some scaffolding from a construction site? Create your own frame in your garden.

Alternitively, string a sheep up and go at it.....oh, wait...different conversation.

Cant we go one thread without the sheep coming up? ;)

But yeah...i was thinking if i could get some chains i could just wrap it around something every time...knowing the people around me somebody would complain though.

Does anybody weigh in on the topic of the wall bracket things for the heavy bags? Any good?

Damm I must say danny speaks the truth, I also got the same model with a 200 pound bag (which I had to return because it was shaking the whole thing), I returned the bag for a 100 pound bag, now the only problem is that I live in a second floor so the neighboors complain everytime I beat up the bag..........fuckers.

Wont adding more weight to the bottom of the stand stop the shaking?

The brand is Century.

It's not hard. But you do need to keep an eye on your kicks. It only took kicking the bars once to cement that in my mind. It's great for front kicks because the bag will bounce off the bars.

And, get this, Danny is right. If you have a heavy and you hit hard, you'll need more than a couple of 45s to keep the stand from moving around. I use 250 pounds (4 - 45s and 2 - 35s).

I put my stand in the garage. It's a three car garage, but I only have two cars.

Somebody should give Danny a medal or something, lol.

And cool...ill take a look for that one aswell.

Thats my main worry with the kicking, i dont wanna break my shin, lol.

Have you heard anything about those wall bracket things?

I had one of these

Wavemaster XXL Freestanding Punch Bag on eBay, also, Punch Bags Pads, Boxing, Sporting Goods (end time 05-May-08 13:01:01 BST)

for a couple of years when I was training for boxing as well as weights and it was great. I'm gutted to say I ended up giving mine away because I couldnt get even a bid on ebay! sorry Gazz otherwise it would have been yours!

But I recommend them for normal use - having said that you are a monster of a guy and even fully laiden with water you might be too much for it. I saw a 200lb guy who trains with me go at it without knocking it over but it did move about a bit... good luck!

ya like i have said it is easy to kick the bars. mostly with any spin you will find that you will have to focus and control your movements. as for the wave bags go with the sand. water will make it move way to easy, but with water the bag may hit back lol.

$139.99

$59.99

$99.99 (fill up with water to weigh up to 200 lbs., also adjustable up to 70")

Or you could always find a water proof bag and hang it on a solid tree branch outside, or attach that bracket that I posted above to an outdoor wall or to a tree trunk. Just get creative :thumb:
