I arm wrestle alot of people and I have stong shoulders and arms (if dipping 2 reps with 55 lbs on my back and bb military pressing 5x135lbs is strong for a 17 yr old) but my wrists always end up hurting which leads to my downfall, knowing that my arms are strong enough to win. Is there anything I can do to strengthen my wrists to avoid pain? Are wrists curls any good or should I work on my grip.

wrist curls and forearm work can strengthen the wrist. Being a former wrestler and a victim of sum f'd up wrist, i always taped my wrists.

i mean i dont want to tape my wrists, like i armwrestle my friends just for everyday fun and i usually win. lately ive been losing because of wrist pain and eveytime i tell them about it they treat me like its some laim pathetic excuse or something.

Peer pressure.....don't give into it.
If it hurts don't do it.

Use your other hand or challenge them to a weight lifting contest if you feel so bad about it.

I used to get idiots always wanting to arm wrestle me and I always complied until one day I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder.....it messed up my bench for a few weeks.

I never did them again.

x2 - I dont do them anymore - for some reason I can train really hard with no problems, but arm wrestling damages my right bicep causing delays in training - its not a very natural movement so I would stop doing it if I were you.

I agree (though oddly I'm smug about the fact I havent been beaten since I started working out again - but I do hang out with office workers and like I said I dont do them anymore)

arm wrestling can be pretty unsafe. Obviously youre finding this out! And, 2 reps with 55 pounds on your back is actually not all that great.

However arm wrestling is VERY much dependent on genetic setups. In college we had a scrony 180lb quarterback slamming everyone down. We,well they, cause I suck at arm wreslting, even made fake belts and all of that crap, yes, in college! and had a tournament and brackets! People would come out to music and everything and people from everywhere would come to the matches. It was fun

So if you want to go ahead and continue due to peer pressure and all of that high school stuff then thats your male egoism taking over. Your body is telling your to stop.

If they challenge you to arm wrestle, decline and challenge them to a leg workout instead. Quite unlikely you'll get any takers. :D

I mean ive basically just been having trouble with my wrists because i actually have kinda small wrists. I havent experienced any trouble in my arms though. Would doing wrists curls, extensions, etc. halp thicken and strengthen them?

No. There is nothing you can do to change the size of your wrist. No, dips +55 doesn't make you good at arm wrestling. I do Dips +150 and I suck at arm wrestling. If your wrist hurt, you should see an orthopedic specialist about the problem. Anything else is guess work.

but there are many ways to strengthen them so they can handle more pressure right?

Strain them too much, and you will not even be able to hold on to a pencil when you get carpel tunnel. Seek professional advice so you know what the problem is. If it is muscular you can strengthen them, but if the problem is not muscular you will have serious problems later if you don't address the problem.

first..learn how to REALLY arm wrestle. HAHA yes there's a difference trust me. Won alot of money in bars and in arm wrestling contests around the area because everyone wants a battle of rotator strength instead of using good arm wrestling techniques HAHA!

get some wrist support like some convict pros or something similar from APT. prowriststraps.com has tons of kickass gear.

don't do anything that aggrevates it (duh) and you'll be solid..

ok aside from that, are u guys saying that 5 reps of 135lbs military presses is impressive if dipping with 55 lbs is not?

Is one arm shoulder pressing with 70 lbs with 6 reps impressive too for a 17 year old? Im just curious.

for being 17..yes it's solid work...but stroking your ego isn't necessary. You know damn well it's good do's HAHA
