Recently I've been experiencing wrist pain when doing mostly pressing movements. Dumbbell bench especially. It's gotten to the point where I can only stand a few sets then I have to switch to hammer strength machines to take the stress off the wrist.

I love dumbbells, and nothing else ever packs on the chest size for me like them. Does anyone have suggestions on what to do/take to eliminate, or recover from wrist pain and move past this nuisance?

Yeah, when it hurts - take some time off.

Joint supplements might help somewhat such as glucosamine sulphate, chondroitin sulphate, or fish oils. The most common cause of joint or connective tissue pain is simply too much punishment and not enough rest.

Take some time off, rest it, stretch it, ice it, and perhaps dedicate more time to warmups and cooldowns and flexibility work in the future.

If you train with an injury, you're going to get more injured - not less.

i have bad wrists also, they start hurting after a couple sets also but i went to walmart and bought these one workout gloves that have wrist support and they work wonders... never have anymore pain when lifting with them, at all...

also as gaz said, ice them because that helps alot...

u can by just wraps as well with out gloves i use those never have pain any more , but i did takje time off before starting to use them so they healed before i even put a litle stress on them

:p i had a couple of wrist wraps before the gloves but my hands are just to soft and i want to keep them that way! hahahahaha wrist wraps = about a dollar a piece, gloves = about 15 bucks... which ever fits you more comfy

lol just use vasoline when u strengthen your man to hand relationship lol then rough hands arent a problem

I have the same issue but I'm a chick. My problem is that I am so damn small boned yet I lift some pretty heavy weights. My build is just not designed to handle big weights so I tape mine like a boxer on chest and bicep days. It has helped immensely. I have no pain since I started doing that.

I did purchase some wrist wraps and that seems to help. I think, as Gaz also mentioned, I need to warm them up better. Its an arthritic type pain. It only hurts on certain exercises. I can do back and biceps with no issue.

I just freak at the fact that they could give out when I'm pressing 120 pound dumbbells and they come smashing down on my skull! YOWZERS. I get the same fear with squats. I get this image in my head of walking/shuffling to re-rack the weight and my knee gives out. Sucks getting older.

I get that same vision with squats LOL!!! I was doing ATG squats tonight, training very hard for another show in the fall. I did more weight than ever and that's all I could see was both knees blowing out and being totally screwed the rest of the year!!

Now that would be aweful! That's what I'm talking about, and I suppose it shows the importance of smart training, ( as opposed to some of these people you see in the gym throw'n the weight around, and you gotta look away before they see that appalled ,confused look on your face).

I actually had the knee thing happen to me once when walking the bar back to the rack. Not too badly, I just overstepped a little and felt a twinge in my right knee. Took 3 or 4 months to stop hurting. Then I tore my hamstring waterskiing , of all things...what's up with that? Million ways to hurt yourself.
