I am in the Army and i am doing my long tour overseas. I figured since i was over here i would get in good shape and look good. So i started drinking protein and creatin along with hitting the weights more often. I have been at it for a couple months now and seems to hit a platoe. Been asking and reading about supps that might help me reach my goals.

As it goes right now i am drinking a protein shake 4 x times a day and do about 45 minute to an hour and 15 workout 5 nights a week. As for working out like this it is new and i am sick of asking people and getting 20 different answers. So i figured i would ask the people that would know what they are doing.

If you could get back to me on this and let me know so i can reach my goals and leave this place looking good. Thanks much!!

Welcome to IM.

We would need you to be a bit more specific with your goal. Are you looking to increase bodyweight or lose fat?

I would stop drinking as many of the protein drinks(except post-workout) as possible, and replace them with real food. Then I would change up my workout routine to try and shock my muscles. Also supplementing with a multivitamin, fish oils, and a glucosamine, chondroitin, msm stack is not a bad idea.

My bad on that my goals are to be 185 190. I weigh about 170 as of right now. I have a very fast motabalism. I am finding it very difficult to gain weight. I have gained alittle but not much

Already taking multi vitamins and a couple other. I cant replace it with food due to were i am at and the job i do. Being here puts me in a very hard place to be flexible

Then I would change up my workout routine. Generally you will gain muscle at a faster rate when you first start working out, then it slows. So just keep at it and be patient.

Check out the link in my signature on Getting Started. You'll get some information about tracking your diet and some training ideas.

In short, if you want to gain weight then you need to eat more. If you are eating and still not gaining weight, then you need to find ways to get more calories in you. Perhaps shots of olive oil in your protein shake.

Also of note, creatine adds water weight not muscle, so don't be fooled into thinking that it is permanent weight gain. Once you stop taking it, the weight will go bye bye.

i understand creatin has only water weight and once i stop taking it then its gone. even with take the creatine i havent seen much of a difference

Creatine may increase glycogen stores. Therefore, this may increase water storage and cause increases in bodyweight.

However, this is not the principle reason why one would supplement with creatine.

What would be a normal in take of calories and protein? In 1 day i put in 6,000 calories and 370 grams of protein. Now i could have done the tracker wrong but it looks about right to me. So if i could get alittle feed back on this

6000 cals seems like a crap load.

Mind posting up your complete diet?

370g of protein = 1480 calories
so lets assume you consume 370g of carbs that is another 1480 cals
That would mean you are consuming 337g of fat just to hit that 6000 cal marker.

I was not talking about why people take creatine, only the side-effects.

I went though and try to make it sound a little better but it broke down like this:

Cals: 5416
Fat: 165
Carbs: 678
Protein:304

So that is how i am getting this fitday tracker to work out
