I understand many of the benefits of certain vitamins and minerals in fruits and vegetables and a few details of how they help muscles. But whats been on my mind is what place do they have in my diet if I am on a budget and need to gain weight (muscle mass) ???? Don't get me wrong, I like an apple with peanut butter or banana sandwich but if I only have a few bucks to spend on food I'm going carbs and protein. so why should I get my 5 a day, not just through pill form...

If you aren't vegetarian:

Eggs, olive oil, chicken, cottage cheese, whole milk, lean beef, and things of the sort will help you if you're training properly.

Actually Arra you are missing a few very important points about eating fruits and vegetables for muscle building:

1. They are full of antioxidants - Lack of antioxidants causes free radicals to destroy muscle.
2. They provide vitamins and nutrients to the muscles to help contract.
3. Unless you take a ton of fiber supplement each day have fun with all that protein blockage

Eat your greens! It helps fight of free radicals, provide nutrients and vitamins to your body that you just can't get from supplements!
