Or at least a repeat of an old personal best.

315lb deadlift. Haven't done that much in over 15 years. The goal is 400lb by the end of the year.

Congrats, keep up the good work.

What's your programming like and how do you plan to get to 400?

To be honest, I'm not exactly sure as far as planning. I'm open to suggestions at this point. The current schedule has been deadlifting once a week with 10, 8, 6 and 4 reps while pyramiding the weight. Increasing weight as it feels comfortable.

My grip is the weakest link. Had to regrip the bar every rep on the last set today.

Any suggestions for a workout plan?

nice, good work

Well, I'm not sure about your goal of 400 by the end of the year. That may be a bit ambitious. But if what you're doing continues to work, there's not much reason to change it.

Still, there are some great programs out there for a lifter at your experience level.

I would recommend Jim Wendler's 5/3/1. With that type of programming you'll probably add 10-15 lbs. to your deadlift per month, which would get you to 400 by early next year. Sustained progress is what's important now.

Wow, I've never actually read up on 5/3/1. That looks fucking awesome! Between Westside, Starr's 5x5, and 5/3/1 I've got programs selected now until probably next summer, haha.

grip was my weak point to, so i started taking a barbell, holding it behind me, and just curling it with my fingers(go from closed fist around the bar, and open my hand as much as possible without dropping the weight), then with the closed fist on the bar i would torque it up with my wrists. if that makes sense, its kinda hard to explain.

anyways, that did wonders for my grip strength and my DL

I understand what you mean. I'll probably add some wrist curls to try to help strengthen the grip a bit.

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out tonight after the kids are in bed and I can concentrate on it fully.

Thanks

There's a lot you can do to help your grip if that's a weak point. One thing that I think is especially deadlift-specific is just to take a weight heavier than your deadlift from the rack and hold it in lockout position.
