I saw this on a Youtube Video about kipping pullups.

"""

"Short version: Kipping allows more work to be done in less time, thus increasing power output. It is also a full-body coordination movement when performed correctly, which applies more functionally to real-life application of pulling skills. Last, but not least, the hip motion of an effective kip mirrors the motion of the olympic lifts/kettlebell swings, adding to it's function as a posterior-chain developer."

Momentum from swing does all the work. Plus people look like a total asshole when performing this movement. Its kinda funny if u ask me.

The only plus i see for kipping pullups is if your goal is to keep your heartrate up in a circuit. Its hard to do with strict pullups. I wouldnt do them for any other purpose.

I think kipping only really applies to one thing -->Crossfit. Since most of workouts in crossfit are about doing as many as possible in certain time. or X amount of rounds for your fastest time, froliking up and down like a complete bonehead helps you get the job done fast lol

Yea you know, that's a refreshing and simplified way to look at it. Kinda like conditioning your shins if you're a muay thai fighter...wouldn't really suggest this for anyone else! I will be using this analogy in my upcoming works

lol no seriously... how little you clowns know about training..

i think you only know what you read in magazines..

lets see.. i'm an old school bodybuilder, and in those days they didnt do kipping pullups, so this new way, this crossfit way of kipping is way wrong...

gotta stop thinking like that if you want to progress

with your little knowledge, transfered to your training, i can imaging your placings in meets.... not too high...if you compete.. which i doubt..

shouldnt bad mouth something you know nothing at all about

What the hell are you talking about? The only thing anybody is badmouthing in this thread is kipping pullups, which by the looks of your post is something you should agree with. Everybody else in this thread thinks they're stupid, and you think they're stupid. Who are you even aiming this post at?

Take some time to read what you're replying to in future, and stop insulting people and calling them idiots for absolutely no reason. A lot of your posts are full of condescending bullshit like this. Stop it.

gazhole

my 3rd line

i should have put quotes before lets, and after wrong..

cause thats how you guys badmouthing kipping pullups come across..

you young guys know nothing other than what you read..

kipping pullups are a different exercise.... different than dead hangs.. its a different exercise...!!!!!! dont compare them...

they do help big time your dead hangs.. trouble is with the bodybuilding mentallity i read on this forum, nobody steps out of their mindset to explore new training ways .. ways that have been proven to work years on now. you think kipping is new cause the word "crossfit is new" that style of training has been around a hundred years and kipping has been around since i can remember.in 1960 we use to hang on the high bar and practice our kip swing. slowly making us stronger for the deadhang and helping us slowly get up over the bar for some gymnastic movements..

cause the word crossfit is mentioned, the pure bodybuilders here on this forum rip it.... really not knowing at all how good they are for helping improve the pure deadhang.. so they badmouth it..

thing is MOST cant do the kipping kind... so they rip them..try doing 50-60 kipps and see how bad they hurt vs a measley 20 regular deadhangs...even the bigger guys that are weak, but have the huge ego that always use their size as an excuse is to why they only get 10-12 deadhangs.. " well i weight 220" well, practice kipping and in a few months time you'll get 18...

like i said, if they are stubborn and want to train in their old black and white style and not step into a grey area of training, they'll see no improvement..

guys like theses, that do their thing only are the eaziest to beat in competition...

not making fun of anyone, just stating they know only the tip of the iceberg about trining the proper way..

i know just a bit about training in my 50 years competing, but i am always looking at ways to improve... kips gonna help my dead hangpullups ... i'm there..

My point was i wouldnt apply kipping to my training unless i was involved in crossfit.. how from one sentence you summed up whoever your talking to is an "old school bodybuilder" i dont get, nor do i get wtf your trying to say... Kipping is a good way to get stronger in your hanging pull up?? Why would you choose kipping above DOZENS of other choices for strengthening your regular pulls unless you were someone who does crossfit?? I don't know about you but i would rather just do weighted pulls, or eccentric work than tear up my shoulders kipping... Thanks for enlightening all of us with so little knowledge, good luck in your competitions i hope you kip your way right to the top

what i'm saying, is i see time and time again on this forum, the bodybuilders badmouthing some exercises the " crossfitters" do... but have no knowledge about that exercise..no knowledge at all!!!!

you can tell they are young, and have no idea about the benifits of some of the movements.. it may be out of the bodybuilding norm, so its bad then...

terrible way of thinking..

i guess kettlebell swings are no good either, cause thats more of a a crossfit movement.. however larry scott and steve reeves did those, and i think they were pretty good at bodybuilding..

there are always the few that badmouth the exercises and ways of training of others...those are the second place guys..

yea, you'll tear your shoulders up if you do the kipping pullups the wrong way.. just like you can get injured doing all other exercises if done the wrong way...

thank god i do the the kipping pullups the correct way...

personally, i do weighted pullups, kips at times, and tons of deadhangs.

What is the difference between a pull-up and dead hang? Thought to get a full ROM with a pull-up you go all the way down. Looks like a dead hang. Why the two names?

My Shoulders ache just thinking about them.
