Original article.

"Reporting from Washington President Obama on Monday cleared the way for new military trials for suspected terrorists at the Navy base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, while the White House insisted that the president still intended to eventually close the embattled facility."

Now there's change you can believe in.

Good. Get them tried, convicted and executed. I'm tired of supporting their worthless asses.

I completely agree. However, this just goes to show, yet again, that Obama is a liar.

Of course he's a liar, he's a politician.

This? Even THIS is Bush's fault? When on Earth is Obama going to be held responsible for ANYTHING???

What ALBOB said.

Really, though? It's Bush's fault that Obama is a liar?

Obama had no hand in Guantanamo and the idiots imprisoned there. He's responsible for it not being shut down as he had promised. But what to do with the prisoners? :shooter:

You realize he was a Senator, right? Not much of one but, he really was elected to serve in the U.S. Senate. Think there were any votes in the Senate that applied to Gittmo during the time he was there? I wonder how he voted?

This is what gets me about the whole "blame Bush for everything" crowd, he didn't operate in a vacuum. The President can only do so much. The Congress has to provice $$$ before ANYTHING can happen. And The Massiah was in Congress when all this was happening. He DID have a hand in it.

Check to see how Obama voted and get back to us.

Obama is no messiah, but some of the other options wouldn't have been any better.

holding "terror" suspects indefinitely in GITMO..come on ALBOB wtf kind of a plan is that? he wasn't worried about it because he knew it wasn't going to be his problem...

So why did he promise he'd shut it down then?...that rhetorical, we all know the answer.

I don't think Bush was worried b/c he genuinely thought he was doing the right thing...there is a large contingent that still adhere to the same ideal (Obama included IMHO).

It reminds of me of the "oh shit" briefing any new president gets....A candidate makes all the promises to get elected and I believe most of these candidates genuinely feel that they will be able to follow through on most of their campaign promises....then they are sworn in and get that sequence of TS-need to know only briefings and immediately think "oh shit!...this is way deeper than I knew...and a whole lot scarier too".

He then realizes that everything he ran on during his first term campaign was void b/c its a non option due to constraints he was unaware of.

Something tells me Obama fits this example very well.

how can holding someone forever with out trial ever, be a good thing?

following the wolfowitz doctrine is about the quickest way to the poorhouse, for any country. the main problem with the US is that the foreign policy does not dictate the will of the people, for the good of the nation. it is representative of the will of Congress which is bought and paid for on both sides. so essentially US foreign policy only truly helps the big corporations and those up for re-election. this is exactly why many US jobs where shipped overseas for short term economic gains.

unfortunately in this economy term limit talk isn't even an option on the hill...nobody there is trying to go look for a job either

I instantly thought about the part in Michael Moore's movie Sicko where he takes a bunch of people who got sick working 9/11 on a boat down there and yelled on a bull horn that they just wanted to get the same medical treatment the terrorist were getting.

You missed my point. This has nothing to do with Bush. This has to do with Obama making a promise to close Gittmo and now breaking that promise. That's on Obama, NOBODY else.

YOU check to see how he voted. You're the one making the claim he had no hand in creating Gittmo, prove it or shut it.

You wouldn't find much anyway. He was a lazy senator. He didn't vote on 46% of all that was put before him. Including two that were for Gitmo.

What's more telling his what he's doing now.

My take on this: Obama makes all these wonderous promises and then realizes that once he's in the whitehouse and has the intel in front of him, there is no way even HE could make it happen.

I am not surprised that his die-hard supporters are still clinging to him like he really is gods gift. Now they are trying to say they never expected him to get all his promises done in 2 years. BS. The great orator is just good for rambling nonsense of superlative feelgoods to keep the game going. Have you ever actually listened to any of his BS speaches? It's a bunch of nonsense about helping this group, saving the kids, helping the old, blah blah blah. I have yet to hear a coherant PLAN from him or his administration that makes a lick of sense. He may as well be the stapler guy from Office Space.

It was already there. Had been there for a very long time. Since 1898. Using Guantanamo Bay as a detention center for captured "terrorists" was Bush's idea, with the authority given to him by the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorists resolution.

There was no action by congress on it. Learn about things before you shoot your mouth off, you stupid Bash-ass-sucking-stick-your-head-in-the-sand tit.

He did sign executive orders for suspending and eventually closing Guantanamo Bay dentention. They just haven't been acted on or enforced. Failure on Obama's part for not seeing it through.

:roflmao: You're more stupid than I originally gave you credit for. :roflmao:

Let's see if I can dumb this down to your level:

*Guantanamo Bay is a military facility.
*It costs money to keep military facilities open
*Money comes from Congress
*The only way Guantanamo could have stayed open is if Congress provided the money
*Obama was a Senator in Congress
*Did he or did he NOT vote to allow money to go to Guantanamo Bay?

Here, I'll help you out: GUANTANAMO BAY PRISON: Senators on April 13, 2005, refused, 27-71, to delete $36 million included in a war-funding bill (HR 1268) for building a large military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. A yes vote was to delete the funds in response to court rulings that had cast doubt on the legality of the U.S. incarceration policy there. McCain and Obama voted no.

Single sylables: Instead of trying to pull $$$ FROM Gittmo, he voted FOR $$$ to build a military prison there.

But that's okay; you go ahead and call ME the ignorant one. :roflmao:

politicians make/break promises all the time..at least this broken promise hasn't really cost us anything it just makes us look just as bad as everyone else when we talk like we are better, which we aren't...

Yes, you ARE ignorant. The base at Guantanamo has been there since 1898, Bush using powers given to him by a resolution started the policy of detaining "terrorists" there in 2002. Three years BEFORE the debate to delete $36 million for funding a larger prison there. That same resolution giving Bush those powers was passed by congress THREE years BEFORE Obama was a senator.

Are you stupid child or just dumb? You might take half a second and go back to review this thread. The ONLY person in here talking about Bush is YOU. Not once have I said Bush did ANYTHING right. Not once. What your blind partisanship won't let you see is that your Messiah is every bit as bad as Bush was. THAT is what I pointed out and that you were too blind to see. Get over him and get over yourself.
