The grassroots movement became a player in Republican party politics over the past two years and tea party activists were instrumental in helping the GOP win back control of the House and narrow the Democrats' majority in the Senate in last November's midterm elections.

I personally know police and firemen who feel this way and it floored me. I guess it's the same thing facing every American in the middle class, "We need to cut taxes and programs, as long as it doesn't personally affect me."

They don't want to lose what they have now.

Most of my police and fireman friends here all vote republican but they don't like what they see and they know they are next.
They don't want to lose what they have now.

They'll never be next because collective bargaining is not the problem, it's just a convenient way to slash a budget that doesn't affect GOP politicians. The unions outside of firefighters and policemen will never vote republican.

The Tea Party was started in 2007, by a non-partisan apolitical person, who has since dropped completely out of it, because the Tea Party was hijacked & co-opted by the main political parties, politicians, TV and radio show hosts.
