The crisis of capitalism - a love story for LAM

You make some damn good points phosphor, but JFC you're long winded! :mooh:

I kinda thought about what LAM said and got me thinking about some points to touch on - sometimes to make my point clear enough, I have to be a little long winded - sorry :)

My thoughts are like pollution, yet you continue to read it regardless. Skip over my shit or better yet, put me on ignore if you feel so strongly to make a little twat statement like that.

Your belief that people should have no ambition to become better and have no incentive to do so should not hinder another individual that has drive and ambition to be a success in whatever form they see success as.

My success and drive are towards what I can provide my family year after year. What kinds of food I can provide them. What vacations I can take them on. The cars we drive. The house they live under. The neighborhood we live in. Sorry, with your ideology, I should feel content to live in the hood and give up most possessions to whomever needs it more. Go practice what you preach for a change. That goes for any other person that thought his rhetoric the golden gospel - I bet not one of you wants to give up your time, money and possessions for the 'greater good', you just want someone else to foot the bill.

What success? Either your trying to be a blatant moron or feel content to be blind to anything successes capitalism provides in lieu of a socialistic commune. 'We are most happy by sharing experiences with others' - that's called family. You are not my family and neither is anyone else here. That's just too funny. Let's all sing kumbayah around the campfire, everyone and share experiences. lol

You make no sense. Who said you had to go live in the "hood"?
If people followed the ideology in my post, then there would be no "hood".
People would work together and everyone would benifit.
We are not separate from our environment or it's inhabitants.
We must realize we are part of a whole, and work towards bettering the whole, rather than bettering our individual selves.

It's obvious from your posts that you are an angry, greedy person.
I can't help but feel that you have been wronged many times in very bad ways in your life. But you need to stop associating with those experiences, move on. Stop thinking like a rat, and think like a Buddha.

That's a nice thought, but you're as likely to see that as you are to see a unicorn.

Humans are the product of 200 million of years or evolution. While it's a nice idea to live in some utopian society of perfect sharing and equality, it's not going to happen.

To belittle people for striving to be more, or have more, isn't the right attitude to take. If I didn't strive for more, I'd still be poor and struggling. Instead, I'm firmly in the middle class.

There is nothing wrong with people want to make more of themselves. I spend time every day putting effort into my spiritual, mental, and physical health. I also spend time every day working on my relationships. I also work almost every day on acquiring more money. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Or maybe he's tired of being successful and hearing people say that being successful is evil?

:joint:

You're not even close.

:joint:

The effort you describe is totally different than the effort I was describing.

Of course you should train yourself spiritually/physically/mentally.

okay, more simply put.

How is your spiritual side going to prosper from a rat race?

It's counter-intuitive.

What constitutes a rat race? Where do you draw the line? I mentioned that I spend a part of nearly every day in my pursuit of wealth. Is that being part of the rat race?

Yes.

but it's not your fault. we set this in motion, just like you said, long ago.
We = humanity

We are so far gone from our natural roots.
We are surely doomed. Only a mass shift in consciousness will save us now.

I'm banking on aliens, if anything.

Otherwise we'll just be swept under the proverbial rug of time.

So, even though I spend time everyday with my family, meditating, something physical (weights, yoga, stretching), and study hobbies (Japanese language, herbalism, writing, etc.), I'm running a rat race?

So I guess doing nothing is the key? :bulb:

No, sounds to me like your just playing the game.
I do the same thing.

It's the dummies and ignorants who will need to adopt this same mindset, before we can move into a more utopian environment.

I have to ask again: where is the line? Why constitutes being in the rat race? You're saying that I'm running it, but you've so far failed to define what "it" is.

You're making it sound as though doing anthing other than hanging out, sleeping, and eating is being in the rat race.

But hey, if you don't want to define it, that's fine.

DOMS, I commend you for your sustained efforts to better yourself.

I can't speak for MyCat, but that's not the point I was making.

Individual improvement is the name of the game, the shit part is the parameters that have been set for us (western society) by those who pull the strings. In other words, the things we are taught to value are not those which are inherently good for us.

Take my parents for example, they make good money and I've never wanted for anything. However they both work 60+ hour weeks, are stressed to hell and claim 'they don't have the energy to exercise/eat good food' everyday. Now by your standards, they have been 'successful', but at the end of the day they are still pawns in the big game and I don't envy their lifestyle one bit. Don't get me wrong, I am extremely greatful for everything they've done for me, but I do not want to follow in their footsteps.

We flushed it down the toilet when we embraced capitalism.:(

Thanks Hench, good example.
Sorry DOMS, very busy today, will post a length response when i can.

I getcha. That's the clarification that I'm looking for.

I agree with what you wrote. Your parents do sound like their in the race. I've tried my hardest to provide for my family without getting caught up in it.

The funny thing is that even working 60+ hours Monday through Friday, they could still get out of the race. They just need to find balance. Which for them probably means they should ditch television and focus on something productive.

Just my two cents.

I'd much rather farm. Office sucks.

I wouldn't. I create website and provide computer support. I much more prefer to work with PCs than animals.

Not that I think farming is an unworthy task, it's just not something I'd like to do for a day job.

On a related note, I'm going to be doing a ton of yard work this year. I'm planting bamboo around the entire fence of my backyard and planting an medicinal garden.

That sounds like a good project...Should keep you busy.

I would love to be a home webdesigner...I've been designing for 10 years just with personal websites...Never had the guts to switch over and try to make money off of it. Thought I wouldnt be taken seriously as young as I am.

Being in an office all day blows.

Breathing recycled air, listening to dumbasses talk dumbass, flourescent lighting killing my eyes...sitting in a chair all day, being fat and lazy.
I hate it.

But not much else to do right now.

It's not that hard to get into the business. Just put a decent website, with some SEO optimization, and you've got a start.

You just need to land one job, do it well, and get some feedback. Then you put that feedback on your site as a testimony, and it starts to move forward. That one job will help you get another and do it well, which adds another testimony, and so on.

Yeah, I hear you about working in an office. I still work onsite for a client a couple days a week. But I also work at home. The commute is walking down the stairs. I get to come and go pretty much as I please (concalls notwithstanding).

As for your age, it actually works for you in the IT world. Plus, you can wear a suit.

My current plans have me leaving the IT field altogether in 12-18 months though.
