Good day,

I've been lurking around for awhile, and watching Mark Rippetoe videos on proper form, so I thought I should finally make a post regarding improving my form.

Here's what my form is like at the moment:

How do I improve on my current form?

Thank you.

first thing i would do is start at a lower weight. when you are focused on form, dont think about how much weight you are doing. also, if u lift in a gym, when doing deads or something like that, look in the wall mirrors to see how your form looks or get a friend to remind you to focus on form.

He's only doing the freaking bar on three of the five. lol

I was going to say the opposite. Too little weight allows your secondary stabilizer muscles to control the path. I would add just enough weight to force your primary movers to deal with it's center of gravity.
Your form looks good though, I mean you have very good control.

Overall I would say your doing a good job. One thing I would recommend is a bit more shoulder tuck & a little more arch in your back, on the bench press. And don't forget to rip that bar apart, this will naturally flare out your lats. Keep your bar speed slow and controlled on the way down, then explode off your chest (slight pause at the bottom).

^Very well said. I should add that I never cared for trying to check my form in a mirror during the deadlift or squat, as some other posters have suggested. Seems a bit unnatural to me. I've always asked someone I trust to check my form. Unfortunately, that is not always possible for everyone. Just another reason to train around other serious lifters, if possible.

Thank you Flathead.

dont lock out your knees when squating and you dont have to go all the way down. PRESS LOOKS FINE BUT IF YOU COULD DO A SEATED PRESS TO THE FRONT. THE ROWS YOU DONT HAVE TO TOUCH THE WEIGHT TO THE GROUND EVERY TIME AND HAVE MORE OF A ARCH IN YOUR NACK YOUR BENT OVER TO FAR. DEAD LIFTS LOOK FINE JUST REMEMBER ALWAYS RUB THE BAR AGAINTS YOUR SHINS,KEEP IT CLOSE TO YOUR BODYFOR YOUR BENCH PRESSS SINCE YOUR TALL USE A WIDER GRIP. AND THATS THAT OVERALL PREETY GOOD.

i would have to agree with heavybomber, you need some weight on the bar.with more weight he is going to need to plant his feet under him more and get up on the shoulders alittle bit more.you cant lay totally flat on a bench, like a sock.you need a little spring in your lift.i cant see your grip placement, thats important to.nice looking gym by the way .lol.
