Lets just make sure we know that Ortiz was the punk who head butted floyd. Then lets not forget that the ref said fight and Floyd took ortiz head off so why would anyone get on floyd when ortiz was the one getting upset because he was losing. 0-31 on jabs thrown through 4 rounds. Floyd will beat manny if the fight ever happens. But Floyd doesnt have to prove a thing ever again

Manny would hand mayweather the only loss of his hall of fame career. to bad no one will ever see it because the fight will never happen

Mayweather is very talented! But i aint got him beating manny. manny is way to active. he is on a whole nother level. And come on every body got something to prove in boxing and if you dont you shouldnt be boxing. I mean thats why you get a belt so you can prove over and over that you are the best

PROTECT YOUR SELF AT ALL TIMES!!!!! He said sorry once why the fuck you tryin to hug a dude??? I boxed and when your in that ring its different. Its easy for us to sit here watching a video and say he hit him a second to early but when your in that ring you see a opening you take it. Its what you practice its instinct at that point. Its like saying its unsportsman like to hit him a second or third time on his way down when the first punch put him out. Its call finishing the fight

That's some shit right there. yeah ortiz should have protected himself. mayweather didn't do anything illegal. But he absolutely knew, and made a cognitive choice right there to take a cheap shot and put the guy down. lets not kid anybody here. this wasn't a case of instinctual punching, or trained muscle memory response. he chose to punch a fighter with his guard down. plain and simple. take it for what it is.

I beleave that you make that call off instinct.. Its the same instinct that makes him as good as he is. Its not something you turn on and off it just is. Ill bet ortiz wont ever make that mistake again though lol

In boxing, the difference between a miss and a knock out is a couple of fractions of a second. To think that somebody who fights at this level will become successful by making "cognitive" decisions before every punch is idiotic. When they train, they train to make fighting non-cognitive. That's pretty much what most advanced training is about.

Let's say he did have time to think and wonder, just the fact that the other boxer has his hands down does not mean you are not suppose to knock him out. Shit, if you are ever gonna punch it is when the opponent has his GUARDS DOWN

In the case of him cursing out that old fool, Merchant is known for pissing boxers off. He has done it to Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. You don't walk up to a price fighter after a win and suggest that he won unfairly, that's disrespectful.

Come on dude, Ortiz never headbutted the fool, I wish he would've though. Only to justify the point being deducted. And that guy was hurting floyd everytime he hit him, that's why this happended. I can only surmise what would've occured in the championship rounds. It's a 12 round fight not 4, unless you can get it stopped. And that wasn't the way a true great wants the fight stopped, unless you're floyed.

I don't think Larry Merchant was being disrespectful at all. He simply asked Floyd about the way the fight ended, and if he felt he was wrong to do what he did. The whole thing was bizarre, and Floyd should expect to be questioned about anything and everything that happens in the ring. It is the job of a good reporter to ask the tough questions, regardless of how the interviewee feels about being asked. Merchant was just doing his job. Floyd's rediculous response to the question said far more about Mayweather and his lack of class than it did about Larry Merchant.

We will let the true pound for pound kind respond:

Manny Pacquiao made sure he'd catch the fight on TV. He didn't like what he saw. "Very poor sportsmanship," said the Filipino pound-for-pound champion in the aftermath of Floyd Mayweather's controversial knockout of Victor Ortiz in Las Vegas yesterday. Pacquiao said he didn't' see anything illegal with what Mayweather did because he thought that the referee, Joe Cortez, had already ordered the fight to continue. "It was not illegal," he said. Still, Pacquiao, a clean fighter, felt it was unsportsmanlike.

Has anyone really thought that Floyd might not be able to be beat. The guy doesnt even watch films of his fighters and is that good. Ok take away the head but and the last punch floyd was gaining strength and taking the fight away

Larry Merchant has a record of pissing of boxers. Floyd is a asshole, no doubt about that, but his job is to knock people out not be a likeable person. Merchant was doing his job sure but he knew exactly what he was doing because he has done it a number of times before.

Floyd gets head budded and not the subtle kind either, dude launched up. As a matter of fact, that would have been a penalty in the NFL! Then the lil punk says sorry and thinks everything is all good. Guess what, pissing of a guy who already wants to knock your head off is not going to help your situation.

Floyd is not and never claimed to be classy, Larry Merchant isn't either. Look up some of his interviews where asks loaded questions that he knows are gonna piss the boxer off. It has actually been known that he does this but it makes good tv so they keep throwing him in the ring with these hot heads. And then he goes and grabs floyd's arm to turn him around and tell him he would kick his ass if he was 50 years younger. That is not too classy either

Completely disagree. Larry Merchant is a class act. He gives credit where credit is due. His response to Floyd and his immature diatribe was justifiable, and more than a little funny. The man is 80 years old. He has covered more boxing and has a greater knowledge of the sport than any sportscaster alive. His style is straightforward, but in no way disrespectful. If people get pissed off because he asks tough questions, that is their problem. It is not his job to be popuar among the athletes he covers. It is his job to ask the questions people want to hear. Personally, I think Floyd's little hissy fit was because he knew the next question was going to be why the hell doesn't he have some respect for the sport and himself and give the fans what they want and fight Pacquiao already. If the fighters can't handle being asked a few tough questions, that is their problem, not Larry Merchant's.

And it's Floyd's job to knock out anybody that steps in the ring with him, any legal way possible. But still people are crying about the way he did it.

Being 80 and a class act, how is his response justifiable? At what point is an experienced interviewer allowed to lose their cool, grab an athlete and tell him what Merchant told Floyd? Shouldn't he take the high road? being such a class act? difference is, Floyd never claimed to be classy or is he known for being such. Larry knew what he was doing, you said it yourself, he's been doing this for a long time. He has dealt with Floyd a bunch of times before and knew exactly how he was gonna respond. Larry Merchant has also been doing it long enough to know what makes good tv, and that's exactly what he was doing.

Floyd won the fight and Larry Merchant never denied him that. Larry Merchant responded to his foolishness during the interview by letting him know that he was way out of line. I don't call that classless, I call it honest. The fact is that Floyd deserved to get an earful for his pitiful behavior, and Larry gave him exactly what he deserved. No respect. It put the spoiled little shithead in his place, and he looked like a fool. Who gives a fuck if Floyd is known for being an asshole? It still does not excuse his behavior, and if he wants to go around acting like a fucking asshole, he should expect people to treat him as such. He is a great fighter, but he is also a classless piece of shit who will be remembered most for ducking Pacquiao and generally acting like an assclown. He is and always will be nothing but a classless punk and a bum. Fuck Floyd Mayweather.

And yet Marquez schools Pac man, and yet again the steal the fight from him. lol @ the judge scoring 116-112 on favor of pac man. Money talks I guess, no way they could mess up the "biggest fight of the century" (pacman vs mayweather) . I called it right, Juan Manuel Marquez schooled pac man through 12 rounds. Good night.

No doubt about it, Marquez won hands down. Terrible decision. Manny got beat, and I think you are right on the money. The decision simply came down to money.

The refs are a complete joke. It's obvious that there was money involved in their decision.

Justice is served!!

evading marquez? He has already fought him twice. The fans are not clamoring for a third fight. This is just something to keep pacquiao busy

lol!
