Im not much of an airforce guy. Im smart but dont like to fix shit and to be completely honest i hate flying.

Curious how many Air Force personnel actually fly.

all i got from your statement was go for it

We just celebrated 10 years in Afghanistan and what have we changed?
What has improved for the civilian population of Afghanistan or for U.S. citizens?
Do you really believe that our presence there has kept terrorists off U.S. shores?
Who is profiting from this war?

Marine Corps Infantry, Air Ground Combat Unit. Forget about getting big. The Corps wants you lean and mean, built for endurance, in order to outlast the enemy. My time enlisted was some of the best and worst times of my life. Having said that, you get out of your enlistment what you put into it. I recommend it to any young man who wants to test their intestinal fortitude and has the desire to shoot shit. :shooter: Keep in mind you will be rubbing elbows with a lot of whining pussies, but some real good guys as well. You will do stuff most people never will do their entire lives. If I had to do it over again I'd consider the Army a little longer. They have more money and better gear. Sounds like your mind is made up, what are you waiting for?

Like the tittle says any marines in here (or any other branches) retired, active or reserve does not matter. If so how do you like it and how fast paced was it? what job did you have and if you could have done something else what would you have done? Do you regret joining your branch and wish you joinded another or not at all? feel free to chime in if you in any other branch and tell us how u feel about your branch your job and what else you have done. Please keep it related to military i dont care if you wish you where lawyer instead im not interested in that.

P.s. thank your for your service and much respect to all of your and best wishes to you and yours :clapping:

  • Definitely liked my time in the U.S. Navy though, like any job, there were some rough spots.
  • Navy journalist -- completed the military's print and broadcast journalism courses. Wouldn't have done anything else.
  • No regrets. The Army did have a better educational plan at the time, but I was able to literally see the world courtesy of my enlistment.

I love hitting the gym and getting big but this has always been in my mind. I would honestly trad being huge for being special forces or even ranger. I dont want to die but we all go somtimes. I would rather die respected doing somthing i love then and old man wishiing i had atleast gave it a shot. I have never seen myself living past 50 anyway. Honestly this stated got me more excited to join the running from it. The possability of being deplyoed does not bother me. im not gonna sit here and pretend im not scared and dont give 2 fucks about dieng thats not the case its just not something im gonna let detter me from doing this you know what im saying?

I never saw myself living past 27 and here I am at 34 with more stories than guys twice my age, most of them because I joined the Navy and got to visit countries and do things people only dream about, hell I wouldn't be living in Hawaii if I hadn't followed my own free devil may care path. In the Navy, on a ship, you'll get to go to some amazing places. I even started out training with the SEALs in A-school, got hang with them at bars and have paint ball battles on weekends, if I hadn't gotten walking pneumonia I would have continued to Buds after A-school but instead I graduated number 1 in my class got accelerated advancement to e4 and my choice of duty station. If you are shit hot you get those kinds of perks. Of course I chose a ship stationed in Hawaii because my father was in both the Army and Navy and told me the Navy is where you get to actually travel to more places. I got to carry a shotgun and go on a few intense missions too when I was on the Vessel Board Search and Seizure Team while in the Persian Gulf. We had to board a few sketchy boats suspected of smuggling stuff into Iraq and each time spiked my Oh Shit Things Just Got Real meter. Another time that happened was as we first were entering the Gulf through the Straits of Hormuz. It was predawn and we could see silhouettes of men on the cliffs on the Iran side with guns raised in the air and shouting, but to top off the tension it was Sea Snake mating season or something because when you looked down at the calm water there were thousands of snakes writhing across the surface. I kept thinking this was some kind of bad Omen and we were all going to die while there. Yeah dude follow your own heart, but I'm telling you you'll get more out of an experience in the Navy and you could always try for SEAL if you want combat. If after 4 years you hate it then you could transfer to another Branch, my father did from Army to Navy and a couple guys I was in with went to the Army. They later wished they had stayed in the Navy...

I spent almost 9 years in the corps. I turned 18 two weeks before graduating from MCRD-SanDiego over 30 years ago. Two 4yr enlistments plus an extension during my first enlistment (for an advanced school). Worked with special units for many years and was in the field with Army Rangers, Navy Seals, spooks, and flown around by Navy and Air Force.

Both of my boys joined the Army. They both said my stories of boot camp and some of the missions that I went on scared them out of the Marine Corps. The oldest is an Army Tanker (was part of 4th ID but they have been changing things up the past year), he is on his second enlistment. The youngest joined and then went to Ranger School. Graduated and on his first training exercise with his new unit he was injured, had shoulder surgery, and was then put out on medical.

The main thing is that the military will make you grow up quickly. If you join up, then stay positive. There is nothing worse that being negative about everything. I enjoyed every base I was stationed at, thought a lot of others did not. I was in some hairy spots and our units took casualties, but overall, I would do it all over again if I could. Comradery, support, friendships, thrills, some I miss, some I don't.

and for any of you saying that you don't care about dying.....fuck no would i want you on my team....that gung-ho don't care if you die attitude gets people killed quickly......

You can always join EOD in the Navy... If you are good with video games you can work the robots they use to search and destroy IEDs...

I didnt see anyone say that. i just said i know im going to die sometime and im not going to be sitting their oh shit im going die. im going to put it in the back of my mind and focus on the task at hand. ANYONE who says their not scared to die is lieing their ass of or needs serious medical help.

I'd imagine around five percent. The air force is mostly support
im not good with electronics im not a genius i dont want to fly, i dont want to fuel i dont want to load and unload planes i dont want non of that shit. so no air force for me. navy is a possible but not really interested in it. marines is tied with army right now for number 1

I really want to become a ranger and one day special forces. Its something ive dreamed of since i was a child. I wore camo with a painted pace and a plastic gun for 99% of the halloweens i can remeber. The more i think about everything in my life the more i want to join. All the marines i know personally loved it tell me if i join i wont regret it. Im worried if i join the army and somehow cant get into rangers that ill be miserable. Not quite sure what to do. Im not much of an airforce guy. Im smart but dont like to fix shit and to be completly honest i hate flying. It doesnt scare me really i just prefer not to do it lol so air force has never really interested me. Marines has ALWAYS stuck out to me since the first commercail i ever saw. Most of my family is army and they all loved it. I even have 2 silver star recipiants in my close family. Im very proud of my familys military history and im looking to add to it. Im just unshure where to turn figured id ask some more people.
you dont like flying so you want to be a ranger and not join the air force?
99% of the AF doesnt fly a thing, you gotta be an officer to do that shit- and the army rangers will require you to jump out of planes countless times so if youre afraid of heights ur going to have to get over that
also it should be obvious but just know that you will be killing/murdering/ and putting yourself in situations where you may be killed of badly disabled, and for what, our country? or our countrys millitary industrial complex.

trust me im aware of this. I dont like flying im not scared of it just dont like. I dont mind the fact i have to jump out of a plane. it scares the shit out of me but im looking forward to the experaince. and im not doing it for my country. im doing it for me and my family and my soldiers. I love my country. not governemtn... not so much. I didnt start this thread to get into polotics and shit like that. I just wanted poeples exeriances and waht not. I aprecvhiate everyones point of view everyones advice though! i wouldnt be going infantry if i wasnt aware of the consequences

trust me you're safer jumping out than you are riding in them....remember military contracts for equipment go to the lowest bidding contractor (aircraft included).....

You might not be so worried about dying, but getting maimed by an IED and being deformed and in a wheel chair the rest of your life might be the more likely outcome....then there the dealing with fallen comrades which hits fucking hard as the guys you are with become closer than brothers....

i think about this all the time^ and as you stated both of those are terrible. im not looking forward to either and hope that non these happen. but war is not flowers and cookies. thats something i must understand as well. can i handle it? am i mentally prepared? thats something i cant tell you until this happens. hopefully its something ill never has to discuss with anyone

Nothing, the second I finished typing "military helicopter" a black hawk came over the rooftop of our warehouse about 150 ft off the ground... No joke...

I was on a special boat team in the navy from 89'-'95. Originally was supposed to be a SeaBee but there was no way I was going to A school in Mississippi coming from PA.

I'd say I enjoyed about 90% of my time in service. I learned a lot about people in the service, good people from places a lot different than the candy coated suburb that I grew up in. most likely I would do it again, as I'm a glutton for punishment.

funny A few times in the states they get shot at by growers ..that is dumb on the growers part:coffee:

served 5 years Marine infantry. 7 months in Iraq back in 05... GET SOME
and 6 months floating the ocean blue and seeing 17 countries along w sitting off Somalian coast for 52 days, in a tin can, roasting our asses off.
Time went fast when deployed or working up to it, but I personally hated the fucktards that were in charge of things. Not always bad, but the last infantry group i served with was absolute idiots.
I now am inactive duty for 6months more and end of contract mother fuckers!!! greatest day of my life it will be

As for psych tests for RIP we dont do them. I woulda failed being I fail the exit interviews.:geewhiz:
