Today I was put on Prozac (20mg daily) for pretty damn bad anxiety. I have suffered from it for years now but it has gotten so bad within the past year that I finally had to go to the doctor.

Anyone here had any experience with it? Did it help? Side effects you experienced? So on and so forth....thanks

a bro of mine was on it for a few days.. it basically killed his sex drive so bad he had to quit. now he's on paxil and the sides are much easier

a few days is not enough time for prozac to work. it was all in your boys head. its takes weeks for any of the benefits to start showing results. I used to take it in my late teens to mid 20's. Along with trying a bunch of other shit like it. One day I said fuck this. And made a conscious decision to stop and change my mental state. still get down and depressed at times but nothing I dont think any other human being may experience. and what a strange choice for the doc. its not commonly prescribed for anxiety, though I can see how it may help.

today I was given some samples of Neurontin because I take Adderall for school and I was tweakin' pretty hard this week due to two major exams and needed something to take the edge off. Its chemical is close to that of GABA but doesnt affect those receptors. Trying it out right now. 200mg.

I tried it a while back for panic attacks but it did nothing for me so I switched back to Paxil. Some SSRI's are more potent than others believe it or not. Prozac is one of the weaker ones. The main side effect is taking forever to reach a climax during sex.. I mean I'm sure the ladies love it but it does nothing for me personally LoL I'd much rather be a minute man in that regard

I hate anti deppresants because you have to take them every day...

Try to get Benzos...

Kolonopin is great for anxiety...

I would much rather pop a pill when i need it then pop something every day that I don't need...

Knowing what I do now this is what I would have tried years ago

you know, there is this stuff called Kratom. Take 3-5 caps and youll be chilling. too much or for too long of a period itll cause constipation. but its an all natural herb thatll take the edge off for a few hours. Ive used it and I like it.

check out this link and use the coupon "couponmeup" Kratom - Buy Kratom Capsules @ Captain Amsterdam

Yeah thanks for the replies.

I would definitely like to try going the benzo route if this proves to be unsuccessful. I don't like the whole dependency issue that comes along with them, but I'll do whatever it takes to get a grip on this anxiety.

you got it buddy. no prob. just remember youll need a few months to know sure if its helping. And good luck feeling better, brother.

Prozac is not really designed for anxiety issues or panic attacks. Their are other drugs that are far more effective for these problems. Xanax is very effective when dealing with panic attacks. It works very quickly and addresses the problem directly. There are a host of other drugs that focus directly on anxiety issues, including the previously mentioned Klonopin. As an anti-depressant, Prozac is very effective for many people. The sexual side-effects of most SSRI's tend to dissipate with time.

i took this shit when in my teens for four years, fucked my brain and memory, try st johns wart. i dont get depressed any more. last time i did i got st johns wart and felt better quicker. as a side note some of the ingredients in prozac are in rat poison. go figure

My niece was on it for about the same amount of time. They kept having to up her dosage for it to do anything. Now that she is off it, she is much happier. It kind of messed her up too.

She found that exercise worked better (and a little weed occasionally)

I wouldn't suggest prozac for anyone.

I took Prozac and it did not help me. I know someone that can't function without it as well. Tried Paxil and almost died from the anxiety but Like everything else they work for some people and not for others.

TJTJ is correct about the time it takes. You will not really notice anything for 2 to 3 weeks.

If it works for you fantastic!!!

As I said though Prozac didn't work for me. Zoloft is magic though. One thing about Zoloft though that anyone taking it needs to be aware of though, it will render Tamoxifen useless. It binds to the same receptors so there is nothing for the Tamox to bind to. Have to use Clomid or something else.

Good luck to you and hang in there. You've heard it b4 but things do get better.

Yeah from all that I have read online the experiences with Prozac are completely all over the place.

I am really hoping that it helps me but if it doesn't I will definitely be going another route.

Honestly, this has been a big deal in my life...I am a successful and confident/alpha male and to admit all of this to my family recently has been a blow to my self esteem. They have all known that something was going on for a while now so I am glad that I am getting help for this. Anxiety can be a real bitch and for those of you that dont have problems with it consider yourself lucky.

Thanks to all that have replied and offered advice.

Hey man, youre only human.

Withdrawal from any benzo is bad but you're least likely to go through it with klonopin as its released slowly into your system.

oh no no, K-pins are notorious for withdraw. Same goes for xanax. The only one that wouldnt fuck with your emotions is Valium. Thats from my own experiences.

Ya may want to do it the other way around to avoid side effects. The dependency issue with benzos that you're referring to develops with certain ones like xanax and valium. I believe this is because they cause a small increase in euforia. Klonopin(long acting) and Ativan(short acting) are alot less likely to do so especially at low dosages.

different strokes for different folks i suppose..

My wife's been on it for years, really helped her. Xanax is the shit for panic attacks but very addictive. Good luck. It may take you trying a few different types of meds to find the one that works for you. Ideally, you only need them for a time period and then you can work off them.

What quack of a doctor put you on Prozac for anxiety? Did you also tell him you were depressed?

As far as side effects, it made my dick limp for 6 months. It took over a month of not taking it before my little man came back to life. The neurochemical makeup of everyone is different, and maybe it will help you, but it was the worst thing I have ever taken.

def benzo's will take it away in 15 20 min really but only take when needed i been on them ed for six months and can't seem to get off now it might be in my head but it's nothing to play with i been taking them for 8 years but only when needed past 6 months ed it's not a game but they work the best nothing beats them foe anxiety

Klonopin is a benzodiazepine that doesn't have a significant side on ED..

Well the thing is we figured my anxiety to be the MAIN problem, however, the anxiety is bad enough that it is causing some depression.

I dont know man, I am starting to think i have been put on the wrong shit after talking with you guys and with my family. I am still going to give it a try and see what happens.

i started gettin pretty bad anxiety/panic attacks about 6 months ago, pretty sure it was work related and the birth of my daughter, anyways i tried gaba and some of that other shit and it didnt help, finally went to doc and he put me on zoloft,100mg, seemed to do the trick, work situation is better too so that helps. only sides ive really noticed is that i get a little tired sometimes and it takes longer to bust a nut which is a good thing.
