Spelling Bee's Youngest Ever Doesn't Advance - YouTube

After correctly spelling "dirigible," 6-year-old Lori Anne Madison misspelled the word "ingluvies" and failed to advance to Thursday's semifinals in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. She is the youngest speller ever to compete in the event.

Parents should be ashamed of making their kids relentlessly study words for these Spelling Bee's.

I think she did great. I cant spell anywhere near as well as her. I hope her parents treated her as a winner after all this because she is.

Yes, her parents should be extremely proud of her. I hope they let her enjoy life as a 6 year old should, and not live out their lives through her...

I'm sorry, that's incorrect. The correct spelling is bees, no apostrophe. :sorry:

But agree with you and Max on that count.

I went to the state level when I was in fourth grade, my teachers were so proud because it's rare for a dyslexic to spell so well. Anyway it was down to four of us and I had to spell ingratiate, I'd never heard the word before but I knew gracious and appreciate. I started good, I-n-g-r-a-C-i-a-t-e, they told me it was wrong and I was out in fourth place. I was angry at how fucked up the english language was, from then on I refused to do any more spelling bees. They tell you to sound out words and use similar words to get clues on how to spell and then throw curve balls at you.

^^^^ lol :loser:

j/k

Love to pick out spelling errors and freak out when I misspell things in my own posts.

But my first and only spelling bee? Failed on my first word -- argument. Misspelled it as arguement. :pissed:
