I am really kind of ignorant to in depth politics, Its kind of a blood pressure control measure. But from the little bit I know and read, the people supposedely representing us live like kings while "we" live like paupers. Now that they opened the Barnes foundation on 21st and the parkway the "mayor" outlawed feeding more than 3 people at a time because the rich barnes folks don't like seeing the homeless outside thier new museum when basically the city people were against the museum. This douche mayor didn't say he was going to feed the 300 to 500 people getting fed there, he just said feedings were no longer legal. And it reasons like this that I feel the world would be a better place with a "few" less polititions running around making up thier own agenda that we the people must live by.

the base salary of the average rank and file state representative and up (senator, congressman, etc.) is $175k plus bennies, so a good $250K a year plus all the perks. the base salary alone is almost 4x the median wage in the US.

very familiar with that center I had an uncle that worked there for many years. not familiar with Nutter except seeing his name in articles here and there. the entire US political system sucks because of the private money that is involved and there are just far too many lifetime politicians which you don't see in very many country's except for those with dictatorships. the US political system seems to draw a lot of sociopaths who have no problems at all catering to the elite at the expense of those that are far, far less fortunate. overall the US is one of the most unequal country's in terms of income and wealth on the planet and our falling economy is a direct result of that.

your looking at current per capita income in small areas which has nothing to do with the price of rice in China and I was talking about the historical GDP of a metro city, Chicago which is ranked #4 in the US as a whole. not comparing apples to apples.

the overall economy in Chicago in terms of GDP is one of the highest ranked in the world and has been for over 100 years even after the metro started to trend downwards post WWII. high income areas such as towns, boroughs, townships, etc. always have low crime rates. the criminal element as a whole such as organized crime that is seen in the big cities like Chicago, Philly, NY, Boston, etc. derives it's income off of that metro economy.

the GDP of Chicago has ranked in the top of the worlds cities since the industrial revolution, its why there are so many schools of economics that come out of the metro area there. currently the GDP of Chicago is equal to that of the country of Switzerland or Turkey.

I mentioned (and posted a link to) cities with a population of 50,000 or greater. I didn't compare apples to apples because you're talking about the wrong fruit. But let's compare some apples...

Look at San Francisco they're ranked 18th in the world and 9th in the US which puts them above Houston, Miami , Detroit. San Francisco is less than 8% black, about 50% white and 30% Asian; their murder rate is much less than those three cities I mentioned despite Seattle having a higher total GDP.

Then look at the next city right behind Detroit - Seattle. Seattle is 70% white and their murder rate is even lower than the national average.

So if you look at these wealthy cities and go down the list some have very high murder rates and some have low murder rates and the relationship is not a linear one with murder rates and total GDP. However, one thing that is always true, is if the city is largely black the murder rate is really high regardless of total GDP.

Four is not a large sample size now is it.
