As some of you may know I am 17 and have decided to take human groth hormone FOR HEIGHT AND UNDER A DOCTORS SUPERVISION. The reason why I am taking it is because I am 5'6 and I can pay for it myself so I was told by the doctor that using hgh now is the best idea for height before my growth plates fuse but he never told me the side effects. Can any one tell me the side effects?

Water retention, swollen hands feet etc. depends how much you are taking. What does he have you on?

^^ Yes how much has he prescribed / advised you to take daily ?

U arent going to have any sides from that dose my friend. It did work for my son at age 14. He is now above average height.

Really? I find this idea interesting to say the least.

nolva and letro will also keep your growth plates from closing(its the estrogen when you go through puberty that closes the epiphyseal plates....).. that's a hell of a lot cheaper!!! 20mg of nolva will prolong your growth until you quit taking it...

Why is that? Maybe I can explain

No explaining, I understand the science.
Did insurance pick up the bill? Just curious as it was done for cosmetic reasons and totally elective.

No, they did not, but he was affected psychologically so much, that the doc wrote the script and we payed for it, for one year. He was withdrawn and cryed about his height. I promisied we would do what we needed to do to help him. The endo did write the script and monitored. We just payed cash. yes it was very expensive. About $900 a month. Now he is a lacross player and very alpha. Its changed his whole outlook on life.

There was one other thing I found out while working to help my son. Lilly actually has a program through certian doctors to provide HGH at no cost to the patient. I didnt qualify, but I did apply through Lilly directly. All paper work was submitted by my doc. Height affects short kids more than most know. It can be a life affecting issue

My son was on genotropin from 14 to 17 cause the growth chart had him topping out at 5-3, he is now 21 and is 5-10, it works under doc supervison. Good Luck...

That is where I got my HGH from in high school. I was an idiot and use to buy HGH for 100$ a kit from this kid that would get it in massive packs from Lilly. He was done with it and didn't need it any more and they kept sending it to him.

not sure if height alone is a good reason to be on hgh , i remember when i was little 40 years ago my mom asked the doc about my height (right now i am 5 5 something like that) and i remember he asked for some tests and upon these tests he decided that hgh is not recommended, i was not a tall kid but i was sure a very strong kid (ironically i was the best in high jump and long jump in my class as a kid for a long time). i have two other friends who went on hgh as kids, one grew tall and the other did not seem to be affected at all ...he is now my height. so OP at 5ft6 and 17 years old is not that bad at all .....many Mr Olympia contenders and champions were not even 5ft 6.i think hgh has some serious risks and should be taken only in pathological cases.
height is not and should not be a problem and op must not be affected by such superficial things, just go to the gym and enjoy life.

^^^ dont forget though he is not takeing 2-4 IU's a day. It is VERY small amounts from the doctor and I am sure he will be monitored closely. I don't think there will be many harsh sides involved in this as long as you do what your doc says and do it properly. It is a huge responsibility though.

Are you a father?

5'6 ain't that bad, but this is a decision that will affect him for the rest of his time on earth. With such a low dose and doc supervision he will be perfectly fine, and this is the only time he will have a chance to positively affect his height, which whether you like it or not has a great affect on your life, not only the way others percieve you but the way you percieve yourself. Studies indicate he will make more money, get a better job, be chosen for promotions over shorter individuals, have more success with females etc. etc. because of this decision. I wouldn't like to be 5'6 and I know if I were and had the chance to change it I damn sure would.

OP listen to overburdened as well. If you take a very low dose of tamoxifen citrate aka nolvadex it will prevent your growth plates from closing as early. So will letro but it has more side affects. You're 17 so don't have alot of time for the gh to have a positive impact, you could extend that amount of time and achieve a greater end height by preventing your growth plates from closing for as long as possible. I doubt your doc would prescribe it, maybe he will, but you can easily find it yourself. I would say 10mg would work just fine and be very cheap. RESEARCH thoroughly first and make sure you are aware of everything you can be about nolva before using it, it is a pretty damn safe drug though unless I've completely missed some glaring information on it.

^^^ yes i am my oldest son is 19 the next one is 17 and my daughter is 14

sure it has to be with a doc and very low doses but remember that he has to take that for years ...so i would think twice before jumping into such decisions, besides the results are not guaranteed at all , he might not benefit much from it.

Digitalash: i don't think being 5ft 6 or 6ft 6 will affect his life in any ways : women, money fame whatever....in fact statistically speaking most famous people are short........being 5ft 5 never affected my life in any way, actually when i first met my present wife . she was engaged to a 6ft 2 good looking man and left him for me...so i must have been good in something:) ...no really now...sure a tall guy will give a better first impression but this superficial impression will quickly fade and will not be an advantage anymore....and still this is no reason to go on years of treatment, i am sure if there was no side effects hgh treatments would have been more popular among physicians especially that this is not something new, in fact it was getting popular in the 60's and then later on doctors became more cautious about it as they learned more about it.

having seen all the replies here (especially standard donkey's valuable comments!) and as a father this is what i can tell you:
5ft 6 is not bad at all and should not be a problem or a concern or even consider hgh. i don't think this putting you in any position where you should feel physically handicaped. if you were my son i would not even consider it.
however if this is causing you deep psychological issues then you can solve these issues through trying to gain some confidence by going to the gym or through professional advice and with time and with maturing. HGH is used to solve growth problems not psychological problems and i don't think from what you told us that you have any growth or medical problems. Hgh treatment should be the last thing you should think of. There are other supplements and natural ways that can also help you,you may want to ask your doctor. i am not sure if a decent doctor would jump into prescribing hgh so easily before looking first into other alternatives.
I any case if your doctor is willing to give you hgh you should at all times stick with the dosage and not try to use hgh as a means to build a muscular body, this should only be done by working out in the gym...hgh at your age will not make you gain muscle, lifting weights will. Also higher dosages of hgh at your age could pause some serious health issues later in life

^^^ His doc is giving him a low dosage and monitoring his progress. I'm pretty sure he'll be fine. It's his growth problems that are causing psychological problems. If he solves one, he'll solve the other.

Thank goodness I'm 6'1". It really does make a difference.

I got nothing against short folks, really don't care, whether male or female, but as Digitalash pointed out it does make a difference in life because people in general are biased in favor of height. One big example is women's mating preferences -- just check out the dating websites and see how many specify "tall" as a primary requirement. Also check out how the dudes at okcupid.com lie about their height in response to that bias: The Big Lies People Tell In Online Dating ? OkTrends

Look, everybody can agree or disagree. But Im all about giving my kids the best and helping them with self confidence. Anybody here who disagrees, thats cool. But I made the decsion. Could I have said, "hey son, dont worry there are a lot of succesfull small people" and walked out of the room. I didnt, and I made the right choice inmy mind and my wifes mind. The kid posting is asking some questions so I gave a positive expereince. If you can fix somethingy ur not happy with, do it

Very well put Det, I would do the same for my son if it was having a major impact psychologically. Money isnt a issue when it comes to your kids, you want the best for them..Plain and simple.
