Calif. Woman Dies After Nurse Refuses to Do CPR - YouTube

Published on Mar 4, 2013
A central California retirement home is defending one of its nurses who refused pleas by a 911 operator to perform CPR on an elderly woman who later died, saying the nurse was following policy at the Bakersfield home. (March 4)

^^^^ This isn't make sense to me. What happened. The 911 operator receives calls, she doesn't make them. Did the nurse call 911 and then said she wouldn't perform CPR on the elderly woman? Not sure who was who in the audio. :-/

The nurse must've called for an ambulance, and then the 911 operator wound up demanding that the nurse provide CPR in the meantime or find some schmoe who would. The angry voice was the operator, sheepish one was the nurse.

Pretty strange policy for the nursing home. If someone doesn't have airflow, they're done with in short order. Maybe they were overfull and needed to clear out some rooms.

I'm torn. On one hand, a person died who probably didn't have to if she would've just gotten some help. The other hand is summed up by this post from that YouTube video, "Most people will become shrill at this news report. Here's the problem with the United States, you help someone and you get sued. Here's the result, people are afraid to help! Surprised? I'm not."

It was that retirement homes policy, if the nurse would have given CPR she would have been fired, It's all because of lawsuits, it's fucked up but it is what it is. (It was not a nursing home)

doing proper cpr to someone that age would have broken her ribs and killed her anyway most likely...the nurse did the right thing refusing to do cpr on an 83 yr old woman...

In japan if you perform CPR and they die you are responsible for their death.

^^^^that would stop me from doing it^^^Americans don't do too well in Japanese prisons

you would be amazed how many seniors go into a chiropractor and have to leave for the hospital due to broken ribs. I wouldnt be surprised if cpr would break some ribs or the sternum. the brittle bones just cant take it. As much as i want to be on the 911 operators side the nurse had rules to fallow or its her ass, and by fallowing those rules she also possibly "could have" prevented far worse physical damage.

yeah, we had a corpsemen go to jail and SOPA had to fight to get him out of their jail because he saved their life, but i guess the guy hated Americans so he pressed charges saying he did not want CPR.
