Dallas, TX- Daniel Wayne Stanley is one seriously disturbed individual. Around 3:30 in the morning on April 30, the 18-year old approached two officers and said he took the foot of a
?Jew girl.? Stanley then opened his backpack and showed the officers a decomposed foot inside that still had some flesh attached. A hatchet was also inside the bag. Stanley then led the officers to a nearby cemetery where the officers found a freshly-dug grave. Stanley was arrested for theft from a human corpse or grave with his bail set at $10,000. The severed limb was given to the Dallas County medical examiner. Sgt. Bruce McDonald, a homicide unit supervisor, said Stanley is infatuated with death and decided to do it.McDonald saidStanley has some very serious issues and possibly mental problems. (No shit, Sherlock!) McDonald said he also believed that Stanley knew what he was doing was wrong.Stanley?s mother said her son has been in and out of mental institutions and suffers from a laundry list of illnesses, including schizophrenia. She said he refuses to take his medications.
Stanley?s mother also said when her son called her from jail, he indicated no remorse for disturbing the grave.
?He?s ready to get out so he can do something worse,? she said.
?He thinks it?s funny. I?m terrified of him doing something to harm another person because it is reaching that point. It is just so horrible what he did. I can?t find words for it, but it?s so sick. As his family, we really have no control over what he did, but also as his family we want to somehow make some sort of apology.? Stanley?s My-Space page (now deleted) conveyed a sense of nihilism and frequent references to death. On April 19, he wrote,
?still contemplating the time when i go get my corpse. i dont think i could fit the whole thing in my bag.? (Heh. I guess he would have been lugging around the entire corpse if he had an extra large duffel bag instead of just a back-pack!)
Stanley was
arrested last month for a domestic terrorism threat. According to records, Stanley told a sales manager that he would
?blow up this building and kill everyone.? Stanley told officers that he had made the statements in anger and because of his inability
?to deal with authority.? While officers were on the scene, he threatened the man that he would beat him up if he saw him. On April 1, Stanley told police that he was thinking about setting his mother on fire by pouring gasoline on her. He told police that he was off his medications for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. He also stated that he wanted to commit suicide. Stanley was taken into custody and the officers took him to a hospital for mental treatment.
His mother said her son had threatened to kill his father before, but it was the first time she had heard of him threatening to harm her. She said she was at a loss about what to do to help her only child. When he?s not on medication, she said, he?s dangerous to himself and others.
?We?ve all tried to get him help,? Stanley?s mother said.
?The problem is that the help is only temporary and he?s released again, and someone with his kind of illness can?t be released and expected to take care of himself. He?s not going to take care of himself. He has no control over his mind.? Stanley?s mother said neither she nor other members of the family plan to bail him out. She said she hopes he stays put. (And I do, too! I hope Stanley gets all the help he needs and stays locked away until he does?and then some. Not only is he a threat to himself and his family, but he also a very serious threat to society. This is one loose cannon that needs to be kept locked up until he has been completely diffused.)
