there are plenty of ways to get loans without credit, job equals credit at payday loans, job equals credit at rent a wheel, section 8 housing don't give 2 shits about credit. Whenever you lend money you just have to assume you're not getting it back . In you're situation though maybe it will teach him there are consequences , but probably not . I forgot to mention, he is on the basketball team of the university that I graduated from.. it's a Christian school and he's getting a full ride from bouncing a ball around. I wonder if talking to the coach would be on any benefit, because I doubt they would like to have someone with absolutely no integrity representing them

small claims judges may rule in your favour, but unless you get a "high" court warrant where court appointed bailiffs can force entry and sieze any assets he has, it's pretty much up to him if he wants to pay or not.
IME small claims courts cannot issue higher court warrants, instead an agreement is made to pay back money owed + court expenses. If these payments are not made it just goes back to court, costs increase against him, etc ad nauseam.
Although yes he will have arrears / CCJ's / bad credit etc.
(thats the way it works on this side of the pond)

Sorry to hear that. Others have said it best: He's probably not going to pay you back. You may just have to write that off as a gift. I loaned money to two friends of mine; both happen to be white. One was for a fair amount of $$ the other a significant amount. That was 3 years ago? Not one attempt by either to repay. For future reference if you ever loan $$$ out: Collect paid for collateral worth at least 3X what they want to borrow. Set a due date. If balance not paid off by date, all monies collected and collateral remains yours. (have this in writing and a witness to sign it) I will no longer lend $$ out.
