2021 Ford Bronco - Complete Look At The New Bronco

I rebuilt a 69 Bronco several years ago, it's a fun ride scary as hell! I wonder what these new Bronco's will have on the value of the old 66-77 Bronco's. I had mine at the local dealer one day and the dealership owner offered me any car he had in stock trade straight across.. Coulda had a Lincoln or GT-500, I thought about it for a minute, then nah... Still have the Bronco, grandkids love to go for a ride, it's a loud, rough ride and most of the kids love it!

Those broncos go for big money. Keep that thing. I would love to have one someday.

It's tough to know what to do with it, I hardly ever drive it, no A/C, no power steering no power brakes. But when I rebuilt the engine I thought, hmm I'll stroke it and add roller rockers and aluminum heads so it will have more power... I wish now I had been more conservative, the 302 stroked to 347 makes just a tad over 400 Hp, way more than it needs. I wouldn't let kids take it or anyone who isn't competent with a standard shift, I also put in a MV3550 5 speed overdrive trans, 456 gears and huge tires. If you get on it, you better be hanging on! So, it sits a lot because there's no creature comforts and it is a beast! Maybe I'll sell it and get a new one..

Sounds like a really cool vintage ford you got there. I bet it sounds great.

SAS, was That thing is very nice. Not very often you see them that clean. One in that condition goes for a lot of fricking money around my area. What?s the back story of it? Something you?ve had for a long time and rebuilt?

My son gave it to me in 2006 for my birthday. It was in pretty good shape, but had some problems. It would not stay timed and I figured the timing gear and chain was worn, so I decided to change the timing gear and chain, then as a second thought I decided to put in a new cam too. It was such a PIA to get the cam out, I pulled the engine. When I did, I found a bunch of painted rust so I started to make those repairs and one thing let to the next and then the next, eventually I pulled the body off and just rebuilt everything. It had a 3 on the tree and I saw a kit on Tom's Bronco parts to put in a new NV 3550 5 speed overdrive trans so I decided to do that, since I wanted big tires and wheels I did the math and found that if I changed out the 3:50 gears in the rear and front axle I would have just a tad higher total ratio in 5th gear so in went the 4:56 gears. Putting in the NV3550 kit was a lot more work than I thought it would be, I had to add a 1" body lift so I did that and a 4" suspension lift so the tires would fit and the trans fit. Well other than I had to rework the trans tunnel because the stick shift for the 5 speed took the place of the transfer case linkage and shifter.. It just kept going, new wiring, new fuel tanks, new exhaust etc. When I had it all together with the new cam, it ran great and I was very happy, but after about a week, the cam spalled and ate two lifters which destroyed the crank. Out comes the engine again and this time for a complete rebuild with a stroker kit and aluminum heads and I converted the flat tappets to later roller lifters so I didn't have to worry about the cam spalling again. When I got it all built I took it to a machine shop that has an engine dyno and ran it to make sure it was broken in and during the testing found it makes just over 400 hp. That's why it is such a brute and can be damn scary! It's such a short wheelbase and tall it's just fun to drive when the weather isn't too hot. It is pretty much all new other than the original body parts, it has new heater, wiring, interior, exhaust etc. When I drive it anywhere and park it for awhile like to go in a store or on a hike, there is almost always at least one note stuck to the windshield offering to buy if I will sell. And I have a standing offer from the Ford dealer, trade for any car on the lot! But I've got so much time into it, I could never come out if I paid myself $10 an hour lol!

That?s a cool story. A lot of time and blood, sweat and tears into it. I sure hope you keep it forever. I can imagine it is quite The handful to drive. A novice driver could get in trouble real quick with it for sure. Very dangerous, really.

thanks for sharing the story. Someday I?d like to find one with a story like that for sale.
