    Suggestions for a legs workout

So you get a better calf workout by hitting them with a ton of reps? Should I still go as heavy as possible or focus more on getting as many reps cranked out as possible?

    BD bench press question

Cool. Thanks Mudge. And I see what you mean by the strain. I will modify my crushers like that - once I'm done doing the reverse grip bench cycle.

    BD bench press question

These are different in that the bar isn't lowered to the head, it's positioned behind the head at all times and pushed back. Picture a military press done behind the neck and lying down, except bending at the elbows and keeping the top portion of the arm still. I wish I knew the name of it -...

    BD bench press question

I guess I'm not really sure of the name of what I called "lying extensions" but they aren't skullcrushers. What I do is take the EZ bar, lie on a bench with my arms in a position similar to how they would be if I were going to do a pull-over. Instead of doing a pull-over, I push my arms into a...

    BD bench press question

I'll give it a month and see where I'm at. This WAS my routine: Skullcrushers - 3 sets of 8 Lying extension - 2 sets of 8 Behind-the-back dips - 3 sets of 8 Would you use this to replace the skullcrushers? Or put it at the top, keep the skullcrushers and remove another exercise?

    BD bench press question

Pink weights - 200 reps?!?!?!? Hardy har.... I realize it's about building meat, that's just always how I've gauged (although incorrectly, I'm sure) whether or not I'm getting any work done. I guess it's because I can't actually watch my muscles grow and I just want some indication that it's...

    Exercises for Lats

    Duuuuhhhh....... Thanks, Kuso. Appreciate it!!

    Exercises for Lats

True, but he also said: That's why I was including the deadlift. P.S. - dumb question - how do I include the quotes correctly?

    Exercises for Lats

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say "forget deadlifts". They are great for working on the lower back and traps.

    BD bench press question

Ok, so I tried this last night and it was ok, but didn't give me the pump that I get from the behind-the-back dips. I think I probably should have used more weight - on my last set I was at 160 and it wasn't much of a strain. The only problem with going heavier, and here's where maybe you can...

    Exercises for Lats

Deadlifts for the overall back, but like TCD said, it doesn't specifically target the lats. For the lats I do wide-grip weighted pull-ups, seated cable rows and bent-over dumbbell rows.

    BD bench press question

Ok, that's pretty consistent with the way I do my routines - big stuff first, lighter stuff last. Guess I'll use this in place of the behind-the-back-dips, and maybe alternate week to week. Thanks for the help, guys.

    BD bench press question

Thanks, Mudge. I'll give that a try tonight since it's triceps night. You say this is supposed to be a great mass builder, eh? Would you use it as the first tricep exercise or would it matter if it is the finisher?

    BD bench press question

So, let me get this straight, Mudge. You do it just the same as a regular bench press, but with the palms facing your head instead of your feet? I've never tried it, but in my mind that seems awkward.

Who uses cardio to lean out?

From everything I've read concerning cardio, you would be fine with this Erilaya, just because cardio is one area where men and women differ. One hour of cardio could spell a loss for men (think of all the men marathon runners - skin and bones), but one hour of cardio for women is more ideal...

Top 7 things not to do in the gym

Thanks for posting that article, Mudge. It was a great read, and, happily enough for me, it looks like I'm about due for a week-long break! And great improvements, by the way - keep going! And Golds_Goofball, why the heck are you here? Won't any of the other children play with you? Maybe you...

Who uses cardio to lean out?

Well, if you still end up burning 500 calories, I suppose that would be your main goal. I've read that the longer a guy does cardio, the more risk he runs of losing the LBM. The main reason I do the wind sprints is not really just for the calorie burn, but for the lung workout. Plus, it's kind...

Who uses cardio to lean out?

When I'm not bulking I do wind sprints, but not so much as to lose the muscle. Breaks down like this: 5 minutes walk up to a fast walk (5 mph or a little better, depending on your leg-length). Minute 6: sprint at a 10 mph pace or better; Minute 7: slow down to a 7.5 mph pace; Minute 8: back up...

    Am I overtraining my chest?

I use those same exercises in a slightly different order (flat bench, decline, flyes, incline) but only do eight reps and only 2 sets of each, except flat bench, which I do 3 sets. I also do the flat bench with a wide grip. I do chest work once a week to allow plenty of recovery time. (All this...

    Are you a "bodybuilder"?

Good point, Mudge. I'll definitely concede the "powerlifter" aspect. As far as the other point goes, you make a strong point there as well. I guess if I heard someone say "I'm a body-builder" you're right, I would assume they meant professionally. So, ok, I'm clueless - and with a degree in...
