    abs question

This site says: "The abdominal plank is a great exercise for strengthening the transverse abdominus. The transverse abdominus is the deepest layer of abdominal muscle and wraps around the whole midsection. When you contract the abdominals, your waist becomes thinner. This is the action of the...

    abs question

When I do a crunch, my abs look strange. I can see my abs down the center tense up and stand out, I guess those are the rectus abdominus. But on the sides it's like a total cave in. Am I just not hitting the obliques enough? I haven't been training my abs for too long and I've never really...

Is doing abs counterproductive to chest?

I read that Vince Gironda thought you should not do abs while trying to build chest. Something about that it shocks the solar plexus. I'm not even sure if I have that right. Any thoughts on that?

    giving blood

I was wondering if any of you who are BB's have given blood. If so, is it best not to do it before you work out? How long do you have to wait before working out again? Do I need to disclose that my blood is 90% creatine?

    Dumbell vs Barbell bench press

I recently started back to the gym going to a small facility that has only dumbells. At first I wished for a flat bench, enough so that I bought a flat bench setup for the house. The most I can db bench is 170 x 3 reps. I do that with no shoulder pain or wrist pain. (no gloves or wrist...

    when to start weighted dips?

If I might resurrect this thread to ask one more thing, the gym I go to doesn't have a belt for weighted excercises so I'm going to buy one. Are there any particular qualities I should look for in a belt. I plan to get one with a chain instead of a strap, but do I need one with a wide back for...

    when to start weighted dips?

I agree that progressively increasing resistance is good, but as far as rest goes, I thought low rest was better for building bulk. I was actually trying to cut my rest down to 30 seconds. :hmmm: forgot to mention the dips I did came after 4 db Flat Bench sets, 4 db Incline and 4 db...

    when to start weighted dips?

Yesterday I did 20-8-6-6 with about 1min of rest trying for hypertrophy, should I cut my rest before adding weight?

    do you use resellerratings.com?

I was just about to buy some liver tabs online. I found a store with free shipping and a great price, vitaglo.com. So great that I was a little suspicious, so I put their name into resellerratings.com and holy smokes, nothing but horrible reviews. Too good to be true as they say. Just wanted...

    Lifting Straps

well, I just saw another thread saying the same thing so I guess it's not a new angle and I got my question answered. move along, nothing to see here

    Lifting Straps

I know the pros and cons and that it's a fairly old debate, but I think I have a new angle. I don't want to cheat my forearms, but I also like to use the much heavier weights that straps allow. When I first started working out, I used straps for all pulling excercises. Now that I've learned a...

    increasing number of pullups

I was just thinking about this today as it was back day. I do chin-ups first (or palms facing me, whatever that's called this week). I decided to try negatives after I could do no more full reps. I was wondering if this was considered an effective method. I use a dips/back station with foot...

    No energy in the gym

Actually they kind of felt the same. When I say that I didn't eat a meal, I do always drink a whey protien shake (with teaspoon of flaxseed oil) as a minimum before a workout, I guess I don't really consider that a "meal". Thanks for the response too, I can see you know what you are talking...

    No energy in the gym

Thanks for the tips. I'll try some liver too then. I was coincidentally just reading an internet piece recently by one of Vince Gironda's disciples who said he recommended liver tabs.

    No energy in the gym

I work 12hr shifts so there's not alot of time to squeeze in a workout on a work day. I don't think that I really want to pile that much into one day anyway. I stick to my days off for workouts typically. Maybe my problem is working out as soon as I wake up then. I'll try wait a little...

    No energy in the gym

I do 2 sets of 10 push-ups as warm up before I do the heavy set. as I said, I eat as much as I can at every meal, I'm just unsure if I should eat a pre-workout meal. I eat at least 4 meals a day.
