Yesterday I did 20-8-6-6 with about 1min of rest

trying for hypertrophy, should I cut my rest before adding weight?

no. try adding a 25 now and see how you do. aim for 3 intense sets. you might want to try going 25 - 35 - 45 with the additional weight, i think progressive resistance is important.

today i did weighted dips, went +45 x8, +90 x7, +135 x7. i swell up like a puffer fish after that.

take 2-3 mins between sets, enough until your breathing has calmed and you feel ready to attack it again. the mental game is important. i wont even start putting the belt around my waist until i psyche myself up for each set.

Hey Curse, do you start whatever day you do weight dips on with weighted dips? I find it to do them on either chest or tricep day when I do them last, I have nothing left and it's hard even with my BW.

heres what chest workout was today:

barbell bench: warmups, 225x10, 275x6, 315x5, 315x4
incline dumbell press: 70x10, 90x8, 100x8
then the weighted dips
machine fly, 3 sets but i do one arm at a time so i can sweep farther across my chest, who knows what the weight really is on those things. stack says 220.

then some triceps crap but my shoulder twinged so i cut it short. little ice and it feels fine now.

I agree that progressively increasing resistance is good,

but as far as rest goes, I thought low rest was better for building bulk. I was actually trying to cut my rest down to 30 seconds. :hmmm:

forgot to mention the dips I did came after 4 db Flat Bench sets, 4 db Incline and 4 db military press sets

Lowest I would go with rest while bulking is 60 seconds. If your only a beginner, I would drop those exercises down to 3 sets each.

longer rest for skinny hardgainers like me, shorter rest for fat easygainers like p funk.

:D

If I might resurrect this thread to ask one more thing, the gym I go to doesn't have a belt for weighted excercises so I'm going to buy one.

Are there any particular qualities I should look for in a belt. I plan to get one with a chain instead of a strap, but do I need one with a wide back for lumbar support ect. I weigh 180lbs.

Thanks for the advice.

my chain belt doesnt cinch around the waist, the weight plate keeps it on you.

weighted dips make you look big in the gym. not that anyone here cares.
