16 yr old looking for help!

Thanks for the replies...this was honestly, all i was looking for !

Sounds like a good plan to follow. The only problem is, I don't want to give up my running! I love it so much and am very fit because of it. If I continue to run my usual (17 miles per week), started doing Juggernaut's lifting plan and ate Juggernaut's meal plan, would I at least gain some lean muscle and cut down on fat?

Ps. Juggernaut, when you say "3x10" for example, do you mean 3 reps of a weight that is 10lbs?

He means 3 sets of 10 reps. The weight has to be determined by you and your body. Good luck on the new diet man and keep us posted. Starting a journal definitely helps with the journey ahead.

Jack, just cutting your running down to maybe 2-3x a week (temporarily) will make gains you never thought possible. If you really want to build muscle, this is really the only way to do it. You are going to put on a little fat. But after you are done with this cycle, you can slowly go back to running. But understand that excessive running may eat up some of the tissue you just worked so hard to build. That's your call. If it were me, and I'm in this game to be a s large as possible, I'd let go of the excessive running. I'd still do it, but not as much.

Thanks for the help. I do not want to get as big as possible, my goal is just to put on a little lean muscle and to look more toned, rather thank skinny. Even if I carried on with my usual running regime, but included a gym trip for weight training twice a week, and sorted out my diet to the way that Juggernaut suggests, would I put on lean muscle and lose fat?
 
Too much cardio will make your gains smaller as well as cut in on recovery time. Essentially you need calories to build muscle.
Once you start to see how much you can gain, it will be up to you to continue to do what want. I compete at least twice a year. My goal is to become as humongous as possible but with as much aesthetic symmetry as I can muster. This may not be your goal. It seems as if you just want to put a few lbs on so that dont look like a rack. that's okay. But again, you will be working twice as hard if you continue to run as you do now, at least in a gaining phase.

Also, be careful. Runners Knee (Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome) is a bitch. It's one of the chief reasons why I cant go nuts on squats anymore.
 
But it's my hobby! If I don't run, I get depressed! (as sad as it may sound !!!)
 
then my advice would be to just try it out and see what happens...I too am a runner, and I could never just give it up for the sake of bodybuilding. I too get cranky when I don't run.

Eat 5-6 meals a day, make sure you get plenty of healthy fats, proteins, and carbs, and follow the advice you've gotten in this thread so far...but keep running. If you fix your diet and lift and find that you're still not gaining the weight you want, then you'll have to reassess if you want to cut you're running for a while.
 
jack I didn't say give it up completely, just put it aside for a short period of time. On the other hand, bs21 did give you some pretty good advice.
Look, you know what to do now. You have a diet and a routine. My suggestion to you would be to assess how badly you want to put on some pounds. In the meantime, ask yourself if you really want to dedicate yourself to the grueling amount of work that you will go through. In essence, "to each his own."
 
As an ectomorph, you'll need to work even harder at gaining new muscle tissue. What will worsen the amount of work you'll need to do is the amount of running that you're choosing not to cut down on. If I were an ecto in the same position you're in, I'd eliminate running completely for 2-3 months.
