So i went and got a massage on Saturday by female that used to do power lifting, she had a questionaire that we had to go through and asked if i got headaches, i said no but i do when i do squats after about 3 sets i start getting a headache it gets worse the more i do (not to the point of a migrane or anything) just enough to piss me off. She reckons i should lighten the w8 and do more reps or a could get an anurimsm (sp?) What do you guys think??

Also she was workin my shoulders and did this stretch thing with my hand back up over my head (chest stretch) and i got pins and needles in my hand, she told me not to put anymore size on my delts cause the muscle was getting pinched in the socket and cutting off the circulation, and that if i didn't i would have to get my shoulders operated on like her and then showed me 2 wicked scars on her shoulders.
It's not like i'm Ronnie or Arnie... could it be that bad... What do you guys think??

Thanks Pete :D

Anyone that does squats right get light headed doing them, I always do. And for the shoulder thing, I don't know but are your shoulders really that big? Maybe that happened b/c your hand was numb? The cuts she showed you are from people that dislocate their shoulders easily, my friend has the exact same thing.

I get a headache not lightheaded.
Na she said her shoulders were from like what i had, the circulation getting cut off but worse...
See pic for shoulder size....

I would ask Craig but he isn't here. He knows everything medically related. I'm stupid in this dept.

Definitely get a 2nd, 3rd and maybe even a 4th PROFESSIONAL opinion. Don't base a major change in your life off of one persons evaluation.

What YM said :thumb:

Your headache might just be increased blood pressure during squats . Years ago I went to my family quack cos i was getting headaches from squats and he gave me this little white pill and told me to take it before working out . He didn't tell me what it was ( i was dumb enough not to ask ) I later found out it was Prinivil (for high blood pressure).

Oh and your shoulders are sooooooo puny !!!! Their size couldn't possibly cause a medical problem :funny:

you do know I was kiddin about the shoulders . right ? please don't hurt me . LOL

Ditto!!! I also get Headaches from Squats, sometimes even Bent over Rows. And I know I breathe right, but I definately would ask someone else if I was You!!!

I don't know. Everyone feels sick when they squat.

The shoulder thing....It sounds like you have some nerve impingment that is argravted when you put your arms above your head.

Craig says...."As far as cutting off the circulation its usually the pecminor and just comes with bodybuilding., nothing serious" he sas every bodybuilder he knows can't sleep with their hands over their head without their arms falling asleep. It just happens".

As far as the headaches, that could be more serious. Make sure you are not holding your breath when lifting and that it could be from elevated blood pressure.

Come to think of it....mine always fall asleep on me when I am sleeping.

everyone gets lightheaded from squats, i get em during deadlifts to sometimes. and i dont get what she was sayin bout ur shoulders. i jus finished a month of therapy and n a few days i meet my surgeon, i dislocated my shoulder twice n three days during wrestleing, and i have to get surgery for what they think so far is some pretty bad tear. i agree that u should get a 2nd opinion. i dont get how puting on muslce can be bad in anyway. what shes probaly talkin about is when someone dislocates their shoudler n doesnt get it fixed,,,,sometimes it will make a small crevise in the shoulder joint and ur tendants and MAYBE muscle can go into it and stay there and keep growing. maybe ur hand was a lil numb cuz of the position it was in, we all have positions that are uncomforable, maybe u should work on ur flexability. good luck.

Problem # 1...Silly
Problem # 2...Extremely Silly

That was Craig telling me what to type. But yw. LOL

I was getting an instant headache when I did squats, deads, or something like that. It went away after I took a week off and then stopped holding my breath

The headaches are most likely from an increase in intrathecal pressure. When we hold our breath and strain or just strain at something really hard it causes an increase in the amount of pressure around the spinal cord and brain. Technically, yes, it could cause an aneurysm but you'd have to have some serious predisposition to that like weak arteries, atherosclerosis, genetic defect. As long as you're breathing properly and your doc's given you a clean bill of health, no worries.

"Pins and Needles" sensation isn't a circulatory problem, its neurological. Craig mentioned a very likely possibility...its called TOS (thoracic outlet syndrome--combo of neuro and vascular symptoms), it could also be something in your neck which is purely neurological. Both are typically due to posture or muscle imbalances, both also respond more quickly when they're new problems, not something you've had for 20 years. Go see a chiropractor.

a few months ago i noticed that my arms fall asleep very easily. i guess i have the same problem. why does the circulation get cut off? muscle press up against veins?

now that i think about it
i always have this problem, i cant ever freaking put my hands behind my head when im lying down
its gets rather annoying at times :\

Even natural people can push the body past its limits. I have seen info that blood pressure can rise to 400/180 or so during repetitions, which is plenty enough to do some damage, perhaps just enough to weaken something so that one day *POP* and you drop.

Trevor Smith died of a brain aneurysm, and he trained like a mother f'er puking left and right, 700 pound incline benches for reps, and so on.

The human body wasn't made to be abused, but we do it for fun anyway.
