I am expecting a Tough Year for the Jays. :(

Key Reasons

20% reduction in payroll (death of owner, change in value of Cdn Dollar)

Loss of key pitchers Between AJ jumping ship and injuries.

No significant improvment in the already mediocre batting order. However there was an improvement when Cito took over as manager.

Vernon Wells already has been sidelined a month with a hamstring injury.

Not a lot to look forward to when you are in a division with big spenders like Boston and New York, and when Tampa is the American league Champions, it certainly doesn't leave a lot of hope.

That said..... Jays preseason starts today 1:05 against the Yanks

Yes, but look on the bright side, they all have the same records right now.

Sweet they are tied for first.... or is it last.... oh well.

Played a season in OOTP once where Jason Lane hit 40+ home runs and ended being my clean up hitter.

Was actually the Blue Jays in the league, strangely.

OOTP?

We'll see what happens in the regular season. There has been talks the last few years about the Jays bats, and they proved to be nada.

Rios looked good in the WBC.

Out of the park baseball.

It's a simulation based text style baseball game where you take over the role of general manager.

Years ago, when I was a huge nerd, I was all about these leagues where each team was given to one person and it basically turned in to a fantasy league after that.

Trades, free agent signings, draft and everything inbetween.

Really cool program but I happened to be the Jays and picked up Jason Lane in a similar situation and in one of the future seasons (probably 2009, now that I think about it), Jason Lane had a career year in home runs.

Now that means nothing, but this guy has always had the home run power in the mold of an Adam Dunn or Jack Cust (an all or strike out type) and it wouldn't be terribly shocking to me if he were to come out and surprise at some point.

Was?

:nerd:

Good start for the Bats, continuation of the Cito Gaston mentality.

Bullpen should be ok, but outside of Halladay as the Starter, there is some worries

Quick little fact.

The Jays were the only Team to not sign a player to an MLB contract this past offseason.

What's up with the Toronto fans? They look as bad as the Boston and New York fans.

Leland took his players off the field because of the debris thrown on the field. This is after a rout....imagine if they were losing the game.

Yeah it was bullshit.

Balls being thrown on the field during play.

Won't happen tonite... lucky if there is 25,000 that show up.

Follow up.

Alcohol sales banned by JaysToronto Blue Jays' beer and alcohol ban targets unruly fans - ESPN
ESPN.com news services

TORONTO -- It was just a coincidence that beer and alcohol sales were banned for Tuesday night's Blue Jays game one night after unruly fans littered the field with baseballs and debris. But some players appreciated the timing.
The Blue Jays' 12-5 win over the Tigers on Monday was delayed nine minutes in the eighth inning when fans threw two baseballs in the direction of Detroit left fielder Josh Anderson and tossed a handful of paper planes and empty beer cups onto the field.
Anderson was pleased to hear alcohol would not be sold Tuesday.
"That's good," he said. "These people can't handle it."

The clubhouses were cleared of booze, too, because the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario suspended the liquor license at Rogers Centre for three dates because of past infractions. The dates had been established before Monday's game.
The panel cited five broken rules at baseball and football games and concerts dating to the Canadian Football League championship game in 2007. The stadium will also be dry on April 21 when Toronto plays Texas, and for a CFL game on Aug. 1.

Both affected baseball games fell on dates when the price of upper deck seats was cut to $4, a promotion called "Messin' With Recession." The ban covers everything from concessions, vendors and restaurants to the beer refrigerators in both locker rooms.
Signs posted Tuesday at stadium entrances listed five reasons for the license suspension: permitting drunkenness, permitting the use of narcotics, selling and serving to apparent minors, failure to request approved identification and permitting illegal liquor on the premises.
Mario Coutinho, vice president for stadium operations and security, said the three dry dates were jointly selected in talks between stadium staff and the alcohol commission.

"We proposed some dates that were suitable to their criteria," Coutinho said. "They came with 'X' number dates of suspension and we suggested some proposed dates based on the events that we've had in the past."
Fans who want to exchange their tickets for the affected dates will be allowed to, subject to availability.
Last season, the Blue Jays halted alcohol sales in the upper deck for three games in May and June after fans brawled in the stands, leading to almost 100 ejections.

On Tuesday, the team increased security by checking bags and patting down fans in a bid to stop alcohol from being smuggled into the stadium.
Tuesday's ban meant little to Tigers manager Jim Leyland.
"That has no bearing on me," Leyland said. "I don't drink beer, particularly not during the game."

Security placed pictures around the stadium of this known alcoholic...beware, ...he can get violent.

But they let the kid in, it's not his fault.

Yep the Liquor License was suspended, for previous infractions, not cause of what happened on Monday night.

Last year during one the cheap beer nights, there was a huge brawl that occured in the upper deck.

Interesting note today about today's Starters in which the Jays won :D

the first time since the Draft began in 1965 that two first-round picks debuted against each other on the Major League stage

um correction 4-1

But I wouldn't count on that holding.

How about them bats.

The Jays finished 51-37 in 2008 after Cito Joined as manager. Batting significantly improved. And seems to be continuing on this year.

Still one of the strongest bullpens in MLB, and a young starting rotation which we don't know what to expect.

But if the jays keep hitting the ball, they will get there fair share of wins.

All I can say about this team is that it's too bad McGowan, Chacin, etc. aren't able to man the back end of the rotation.

Same goes for the O's - they're lack of starting pitching will eventually be their downfall.

Chacin is no longer with the team :p Hasn't been for a while.

Litsche left the game with a strained elbow last night :0
