Personally, I don't like 5 day splits because it doesn't give you enough rest days. Either go for a 3 or a 4 day split.
You said that your progress was slow on a 3 day split. Even if it's slow, if you're making progress that's what counts! But you might want to change something around in your workout to speed up this progress or, if all else fails, you might have to do a complete overhaul!
